We woke up to the beautiful view of the ocean and a clock that said 8am. Really? We actually slept till 8am? Did we take drugs and didn't know it? Amazing what happens when you have a comfy bed and no noise.
Paige was still dreaming, so Ken and I went to the main lodge for more views and breakfast. After watching the little bunny on the restaurant deck, we went back to the cabin where Paige was up and ready for the day. We packed up and began the trip back to civilization. Our plans for the day were loose, except for meeting my Dad and Mary for lunch and eventually checking in to the Marriott next to SeaTac Airport.
The drive to Olympia took about 2.5 hours through protected forests and forests that had been logged to the stubs. It is hard to imagine the logging that has taken place in this part of the world until you see massive acreage with no trees.
We met Dad and Mary at Anthony's in Olympia for lunch. It was a sunny day and we enjoyed the view, food and company. After lunch we went into Tacoma to do the Tacoma Glass Museum, with some Chihuly works. Unfortunately, the museum was closed so we had to go to Plan B.
However, we didn't have a Plan B! After figuring out the options, and since it was mid-afternoon, we decided to head back to downtown Seattle. We went to REI to check out Paige's Africa sleeping bag. Then, went back to Pike Place Market and had dinner at the Pink Door, which has been at the market since I was in college. It has no sign, a pink door and great Italian food on a patio overlooking the water. All three of us had gelato on our minds after dinner, we found a great gelato place just down from the market.
Now, it was time to wrap up the trip. We checked into the SeaTac Marriott, then took Paige to the airport for her 11pm flight. Back to reality...Paige to Austin, Ken to Vancouver at 6am Tuesday morning and me to Los Angeles at 11am Tuesday.
Wonderful memories of ocean, rainforests, gardens, baby seals, salmon, trees, markets and most importantly, great travel partners.
