My body has finally totally turned around and it was wonderful as this weekend I actually slept in until 8am! That rarely happens even at home! When I finally crawled out of bed and opened the curtains, I was greeted to a beautiful view of the water and rolling green hills. I headed to breakfast, which again while amazing, fell short of the ITC in Bangalore. Unfortunately, all breakfasts will be judged against that for the future.
I met Maria and the girls on the outdoor patio and did some of my now normal breakfast items...Dosa (South Indian-like crepe stuffed with potato or in my case, cheese), black coffee and some yummy fruit. Breakfast of champions! Keira and Ireland found the pancake and waffle station which created some really cool banana chocolate pancakes which looked like desert!
Once we had our fill of breakfast, we headed to the pool where we spent the majority of the day. Lots of sun, coconut water and generally lazing both in and out of the water. I finally decided to head to the spa to see about a massage and was happy they had an opening. After an amazing salt scrub and massage, it was time to get showered and ready for dinner.
We had decided to brave the 40 minute drive to Baga Beach, where Britto's Seafood and the Saturday Night Market is located. We had reserved a driver for the evening and it was about $35 for the 3.5 hours. Not bad! The roads were as crazy as Bangalore, but much smaller...think about 1 lane for for two lanes of traffic. As we got closer to Baga Beach, there were more Western tourists and little touristy shops on the still narrow road.
We arrived at Britto's which had been recommended by just about everyone I had spoke with. They had tables both inside and outside on the sand. The beach was quite a happening place with beach bars and restaurants for as far as you could see.
We took the tables on the sand and when each of us sat down, the chairs sunk what seemed like a good 6" into the sand. The menu was mostly seafood, with Indian, Portuguese and Western dishes. Maria, Ireland and I split a seafood platter, while Andre and Kiera went for the non-seafood. While the food was fine, the most entertaining part was just watching the people and the party-like atmosphere.
After dinner we found our driver and headed for the Saturday Night Market, which is on all of the "things to do in Goa" lists. As we got closer, we could see the lights and a line of cars, plus a massive amount of motorbikes in the parking lot. Our driver found a parking space, and we headed in to check it out.
The market is sprawling with bars, food and stalls selling souvenirs, spices, t-shirts, saris and pretty much anything else a bunch of tourists might want. We wandered around for about 30 minutes and other than Keira buying a cool tea light holder, no one did much shopping. We found our driver and started back on the 40 minute ride back to the hotel.
Today (Sunday) was similar to yesterday, as we mostly did the pool. We had a late check-out of 4pm, which allowed for a bit more lazing around. Maria and the girls switched hotels for the next 2 days, while Andre and I headed back to the airport for our 715p flight to Bangalore.
Next up....Ken/Karen arrive on Thursday morning!
