Today we head back towards the north, and it is over some pretty ordinary un-made roads. Without a 4WD you wouldn't stand much of a chance. We are heading for Yabelo, and the landscape we drive through is pretty much what you imagine Africa to be.
At one point we stop in a dried river bed to stretch the legs and take a couple of photos, and a young guy with a rifle slung over his shoulder wanders through. He stops for a couple of minutes - more out of curiosity than anything - and has his photo taken, and then continues on his way.
We meet several other of the locals at occasional intervals, and stop to see if we can get a photo. Some are OK with it, some want money first, and with some it is flat out no.
At one point our driver spots a couple of the small antelope (dik-diks) on the edge of the road ahead, and pulls over and stops the engine. But they are too shy and too quick and disappear into the scrub before we can get the camera focused. I am just about to turn it off when movement catches my eye on the other side of the road, adjacent to our vehicle. It is a family of wart hogs, and they stop and pose long enough to get a couple of photos.
Along the way we manage to get a few more nature shots, a few more shots of the locals, but it is late when when finally make it to Yabelo. Our accommodation is more hotel-style this time - clean and comfortable, with hot water.
We also discover a rare taste treat here in Yebelo - frothy tea. A first - not only in Africa.
