Ok. First blog entry.. Currently siting in our Newcastle hostel after a big day. The flight fro ACT was so long and exhausting!! There was the 6 hour wait in Melbourne then the quick stopovers in Kuala Lumpar and Dubai..
Dubai was interesting since we were there a bit longer and got hungry so we changed some Pounds over for dirhams..??? I think. We were a bit confused with this but hey- we got our coffee!! The flight was then delayed once we were all seated so that was an extra hour sitting on the plane - thank God for the movies!
Finally got into London and surprised to see it was bright as day outside and 18 degrees. Very exciting moment hearing the locals speak for the first time!!! We then had a cab driver waiting for us with a sign saying 'Mrs Rowe' which was very cool. 45 min drive to Jen's Cousins house Adam and Linda. So lovely! Beautiful house and such nice people..
With their help as locals we had an early start to catch the underground tube thing to the bus station. I saw a little squirral on the way and screamed as it ran into the bushes- they are so funny and fast! We cut the bus station a bit close and just made it onto the bus.. Had to sit seperately since it was packed but Jen got chatting to a nice girl named Claire who wasfrom London. There was alos two feral children sitting in front of us and the mother was even worse.. there ended up being a little argument between he and another passanger.
Got to Newcastle about 3:45pm- FREEZING!! Just like Canberra. Luckily Adam had told us this so we came prepared- kind of. Went up to the room which has very tall ceilings but is very nice. Then spent the afternoon seeing the sights and absolutley amazed by the history in the buildings. Dad- you would love it!! Then went to a small pub called Flynn's. We were thir only customers but it was a really cool place.. it was £6.95 (approx 12AUD) for a bottle of wine and nachos!! Bargin. Jen ended up falling asleep on their couch lol and we didn't drink much of the wine.
Everyone here is very friendly and have given us heaps of advice on wha to do. Tomorrow we plan to get up early and get to Durham to see the Harry Potter castle!!!! Woohoo then see the rest of the sights then spend Friday night out a small pub or something. Hoping also to see one of the bridges that Ncastle is famous for since it rotates instead ofjust lifting.
Really enjoying it and feel very relaxed! Feeling the time difference though.
Love lots L&J xx
