So the last two days have been spent in Newcastle, United Kingdom which is about 6 hours north of London by bus. Newcastle is amazing in history- even I can appreciate it. was spent visiting two castles and a cathedral. Both were used in filming for Harry Potter movies!!! The first one is the Durham Cathedral which is still doing services and everything but open up throughout the day for tourists. This is where the dueling scene between Harry and Malfloy happens in the 2nd movie and also the courtyard area and corridors used in most of the movies - so cool!!! So this trip was 10mins by their super fast train and then a short bus ride through the smallest, most narrow streets I have ever seen!! This was a cool little town.
We found a cute Italian place outside of their city area and got a good deal on pizza and pasta yum yum. We had to get to Newcastle then walk a bit to get a bus for over an hour to Alnwick which is the furthest North we will get. The castle here is very commecial and operates only as a tourist attraction whereas the Durham one was a univrsity and church.
This was such a big day for us.. We got back to the hostel at about 7:30pm then straight to the shower to get ready fo our first night out on the town. We didn't get out until close to 11pm and went to Revolution club which was reccomended by the hostel staff. This was a really great place except that nobody dances here!! I had serious issues understanding the locals talk so Jen was translating everything for me. Met one group who were out for a bucks night- the groom to b hd a bra on his head and was getting acupunture on his face in the middle of the club!! Weirdest idea of fun.
Since we felt like dancing we asked around and a couple of girls highly recomended the 'Sea' club by the Quayside so we got a taxi there for 4quid and walked in to find 3 empty floors!!! We were literally the only people there and this was after midnight!! Anyway, we finally found a great club where people were dancing and got to know a few locals. It ended up being a 5am finish and up at 6:30am to get the bus back to London. This was a hard 6 hours sitting on the bus- I had a hangover and the thought of any food made me sick. Finally back into London and had some comunication issues with Linda who was picking us up so we got back to the house later in the afternoon. World Cup started here tonight and England was one of the first teams up so a big night ahead again.. Yikes! Just heading out for a Vietnamese dinner with Adam and Linda to thank them for their lovely hospitality.
We are both getting super excited now.
Love L&J xx
