Left Arequipa on Monday to head for Lima on a bus journey that felt like it would never end!! Took us about 18 hours to arrive in Lima. The hostel we had booked was really nice and had a private room for a change! The joys of no having to share a dorm!!
Lima itself was a bit grey! For a capital city it never had the passion or flair associated with south america. The sky was grey, the buildings were grey and the polluted grey air clung to your clothes! Yet we still made the most of our sightseeing! Visited the Miraflores area where we were staying and browsed the local markets before heading along towards the beach to see the surfers in action! After a 3 course lunch we headed off to Central Lima where we visited the main Cathedral and Spanish Inquisition museum! Before returning to prob up the bar in Miralfores and enjoy the Pisco Sours!! That night we had a dinner of GUINEA PIG in a Michelin Star restaurant not far from where we were staying!
The next day we headed off for Cuzco!! Now that was a looooong bus ride! Took us almost 23hours to actually arrive in Cuzco! The winding roads, high altitude and lack of sleep made for a very unpleasant journey but we made it!! No longer had the joys of a private room was back to sharing a 10 bed dorm!! Cuzco itself seemed very touristy but in a nice way!! Although we were all too tired to really appreciate that the first day!! Was a very very early bed on Friday!
After a full nights undisturbed sleep we were ready to go and explore Cuzco!! We first ventured to Llama Path to confirm all our Inca Trail bookings then headed around the markets picking up our woolly essentials for the cold nights ahead! Then visited the Inca Museum before another 3 course lunch then onto the Ancient Inca Temple that was destroyed by the Spaniards during the Invasion. The remains of the Inca walls can still be seen here!
After that spent the rest of the afternoon lazing around the hostel.
Monday is the beginning of our Machu Picchu 4 day trek!! Cannot wait!!
