Arrived Sydney and was pretty unimpressed.. Then met up with Catherine who I'd endured medical research with! She'd been in the same hostel for 2 months!! Crazy.. Sydney then became a lot more alluring.. Went down to the Opera House and round the area called the Rocks gorgeous bars and pubs. Stayed in 4 different hostels - including the lovely area of Kings Cross famed for its many Strip Clubs.. Although to be fair with so many police constantly there it actually proved a very safe area!!
Went to Bondi & Coogee beaches both gorgeous and all the other little beaches & rockpools in between - Sydney has the advantage of being a bustling city but then just drive out 30 mins and you can get to some spectacular beaches and just a little further for the fantastic Blue Mountains..
Sydney is friendly and fantasic - there are public ferries out to the different suburbs.. We spent New Years Eve in North Sydney.. We got there about midday by ferry set up camp with enough food and drink to feed a small country! We took regular dips in the sea when it got too hot and trust me it did, we played cards and then it wasnt long before the 9oclock fireworks happened. They were amazing but nothing could eclipse the midnight fireworks what an experience. What a day - fanstastic..
Had a few part-time jobs including telemarketing selling raffle tickets not actually as horrendous as it sounds as Australians love to gamble.. It was fun and had the most amazing Christmas party - harbour cruise with gorgeous food and wine.. Bite Me Burger Bar at Bondi - did a few shifts there and also a days reception work in the CBD.
Christmas day was spent on the beach with barbeque and good - it was another gorgeous day.. Boxing Day then was free entry to Randwick races (for foreign passport holders) another gorgeous day..
Went to Homebake Music festival with Jess & Emily my friends from Darwin.. It was amazing and cool to experience complete Ozzie music..
Kate and I made complete use of our free drinks vouchers obtained at the hostel and we saw a lot of the bars and clubs in Sydney well it's only polite!
Went to Carols in the Domain - a huge televised Carol service which was absolutely gorgeous as the sun went down everyone had these torches and all proceeds raised went to the Salvos.. A beautiful evening slightly dampened by the fact I lost my bag complete with drivers license and hostel room key so had to go back to Kates hostel and bunk with her!!
More recently just before I left we went to Jazz in the Domain another spectacular night for all ages with all my friends there and lots of dancing and fun..
House parties at Bryonys house are always good for a laugh. And being the first guests at the Strattons hostel we ran riot in Sydney..
So many funny experiences a lot of lovely friends made - spectacular nights out - the most amazing NYE of my life and lots of lazy days on the beach.. Would I recommend Sydney - without a shadow of a doubt!!
I'll be back in July!
