Got overnight train from Singapore to Kuala Lumpar.. There was a cute monk he
was only about our age on the train.. He had a mobile phone and wished us all good morning - bless...Oh the joys of travelling in such close proximity with complete stangers!
Had the best beef curry and rice for breakfast at Pudaraya Bus Station and it
was a gift at 30p or something insane! I was itching to get to the beach having done 4 huge cities in 2 weeks need some sanctuary....
4 hour bus ride and 40min ferry ride later we arrived at Pangkor Island on the West Coast of Malaysia... Gorgeous we had a little chalet..
Stumbled upon Daddy's Cafe aka Big Daddy's/Daddy Cools!! Right on beachfront with big wooden torches lit with real flames. First night there watched the sunset
it was idyllic.
A girl in KL in the train station actually said going up the opposite escalator "Welcome to Malaysia"! Was dead sweet. Have you seen the ad - Malaysia - truly
Asia? Well that has been the theme tune of the holiday! Had a power cut on the island - caused much excitment!
Didn't hire mopheads as the woman convinced us that we would fall off and die and with my lack of travel insurance I sort of gave in when she pushed us to hire a
car instead.. Then started the adventure - we conked out on a dangerous bend cos we ran out of petrol - Holly ran across the road screaming "Help, Help!" Arms flapping
about it was mucho hilariaty! Finally some nice Malaysian guys helped us get some petrol "Stupid english girls!" Also had debacle of car alarms going off for about
10 mins but we managed to sort that ourselves - we hired a Proton Saga - god Malaysians love Protons! But yeah the whole car hiring really was a saga!
Next day played "Ultimate frisbee" on the beach with new found friends was hard work and only lasted 5mins each way with then a swim to cool down! Dutch & Finnish
friends we all had a beer at Daddys swopping travelling stories..
Met Raquela and Jocquaim went for dinner that night.. He was the funniest guy I have met in a long time - you know unintentionally funny - regealing us of his stories - he was volunteer teaching in Myanmar when the protests started and he had to leave it was politically unstable.. Also how he warded off a French/thai guy during the night when they shared a double bed and told him he wasn't homosexual!! He'd let the other guy sort out the room cos he spoke Thai and he'd told him there wasn't any other rooms.. umm do we believe him!?
Next day woke up dying - dodgy fried rice - vommitting and diarohhea concurrently - not nice! Couldn't travel at least I had a sick bud - Holly Kat made the right choice
sticking to good old french fries!!
Got ferry to Lumut then bus to Ipoh then onwards to the Cameron Highlands..Met an Irish guy that had also studied at John Moores small world! Watched film in
hostel but couldn't finish it as two drunk malaysian men came in and started snoring they were proper weird!! Did they not have a bed? Probably not!
Checked out of Daniel's lodge without ever finding Daniel! Holly and Kate met 2 of their friends from home coming off the bus that we were getting on!Back to KL
Did the Hop on Hop Off bus around the city.. Went to BB Plaza - 6th Floor - Green Box Karaoke - it was immense!! 26 ringits like 5 pounds for private room and unlimited food and soft drink - we sang the night away until 2am then got lost in the empty shopping centre trying to get out!! Good times..
Next day went round Chinatown got some good bargains after successful haggling.. Had Indian for tea.. Woke up on my 24th Birthday in Green Hut - wait for it -bed nug nitten!! Holly got me some pressies and a card was dead sweet.. Had a last look round BB PLAZA then got on bus to Malaka. Was lovely quaint city - lots of dancing for Deepavali festival.. Good atmosphere music and stalls on street - had fried octopus for tea - was yum.. Had an end of birthday bevvie in the Geographer Cafe.
Looked around Melaca it was lovely we tried to find the little guy who made the spring rolls that we'd had last night - he's been making them for 60 years!! Imagaine
he was a trooper and they were mouth watering but he must have still been sleeping!
Got bus to Singapore.. Had to get off bus x2 to go through immigration. Really funny - If you're bus goes without you and our bus did go without a few passengers you just
get on the next one with the same company!
Back in Singapore.. Stayed at Bugis Hostel and after near a month in Asia Im happy and sad to be leaving.. Managed to compact my rucksack to the required 15kg
a downside of cheap flights!!
Goodbye Asia Hello Australia!!
