Hi folks
We are still having a ball and enjoying the weather, the beautiful scenery and the freedom of all this space around us. it is all absolutely mind blowing!
We continued along Stuart Highway towards Coober Peedy, opal mining town. Mad max 3 apparently filmed around here. most of houses are built underground with chimneys sticking out of the hills! Went down one of the mines, which was good but we were glad to be on our way. The scenery is amazing, changing all the time - the sky is bright blue , soil red and vegetation sparse grey/green colour. Recent rain has made everything greener than usual, so we are lucky to see it at its best.
We then headed towards Ayres rock (uluru) and got our exercise walking 8km around the base which was great! Watched sunset over Uluru, amazing to see the quickly changing colours over a few minutes. We missed the sunrise first am (due to 2 alarms not going off!) but managed it the next one - amazing again! We are seeing so many beautiful sunrises and sunsets. We then headed for our next two 8km walks up the Olgas and up over Kings canyon. That was 3 walks in 3 days up high over ridges . We are getting much fitter now!!
The flies are a nightmare! We laughed at everyone in their headgear with fly nets but after Uluru we went and bought our own! Who cares what we look like! We have taken photos but haven't found out how to put them on blog yet!
We then drove back along the Lessiter Hwy and back onto Stuart Hwy and headed north towards Alice springs. We passed several dead cows , live cyclists and a dingo running along the road in front of us! The roads are almost straight all the way and we hardly see any vehicles. When we do, we wave madly and see what reaction we get, childish????? Singing lots of songs as we go and talking +++ you will all be surprised to know! We are both enjoying the driving and have clocked up over 3500 km already. Found great rest area with zero cost ( that's what we like!) to camp last night - beautiful starry sky again. Some others there before us had already lit a camp fire and were cooking their tea.
Today, we have arrived in Alice Springs - more later !!!!!
