Stayed 3 days in Byron Bay as we liked the place so much. There are several small coves (as well as the long main beach) which we preferred - especially Wategos Beach where Roger decided to launch his career a cool surf dude and bravely took to the surf clutching his boogie board! He was the only male in the water over 6 who wasn't using a full-size board but hey you have to start somewhere and his antics amused the beach for some hours. He did improve but when you start from a point of get on and immediately roll over - that isn't hard!
We have enjoyed watching a pod of dolphins playing in the surf in the bay - at times only a few metres from the surfers. Roger became very excited and started nudging all the surfers to point out the dolphins as though they had never seen any either. We have also become accustomed to a small water dragon who lives on the roof of our bedroom and noisily crunches beetles when he is lucky enough to catch one. Definitely feel closer to the wildlife here.
Today we explored a couple of other places just up the coast - Brunswick Heads and Mullambimby. They are both on the banks of a river in a nature reserve so the countryside was very good.
Tomorrow we head off for Brisbane and will try to pop in to have a quick look at the Gold Coast and places like Surfers Paradise on the way.

Catherine Sounds like you are having a brilliant time on your travels! Very envious to see you on the gorgeous beach in the sunshine...the weather here has been wet and very windy and our household struck down with fluey cold!! Loving the blog by the way! It's really good to hear about where you are and what you are up to! xxx
Hilary Roger, we have an old surf board somewhere at home so do't worry, your surfing career can continue on the grey waters off Eastbourne coast! Sounds as though you are both having a fab time. We are doing our best not to be envious( but failing). Love Hilary
