4th - 10th July
We arrived at Jim's house in Huron, Ohio on the 4th of July. His house is at his marina Harbor North. I was seconded by Nancy to help decorate their local sailing club where there was to be a party that evening. William went with Jim for a tour of the marina.
The next day was an early start for William and Jim as they were racing on lake Erie, a 38 mile trip round the islands, starting at 9am and taking most of the day. Nancy and I went for a walk at a local college which has an arboretum and very pretty grounds. The sailors were on a Hunter 27 called The Little Red Boat, which came 3rd. There were fireworks both nights, those on the 5th being across the river from Jim's house and were very spectacular.
On Sunday Jim took us for a trip up the Huron river in a power boat. It is very pretty with some rather nice river side properties. We were scheduled to go sailing on the lake on Monday, with Frank, on his boat but there was no wind, so he took us to Cedar point to have a closer look at the amusement park. Anyone fond of roller coasters would love it.
We have spent the rest of the week exploring in the car. We did venture out for a walk in the countryside near the lake but were eaten alive by insects. I didn't bring the insect repellent, thought we were safe out of the Caribbean. Wrong, American bugs are even bigger and fiercer!!!
