After our last all inclusive breakfast at Otres Marina, Sihanoukville we headed to our pick up place just over the road for our bus ride to Kep, just the two of at us first on the bus but as we have quickly learnt this doesn't last long out here, the minibus was extremely full haha with limited aircon, and one lad on board getting pretty sick quite quickly (apparently nothing to do with the drink he had consumed the night before) we had to pull over roadside after only a few kilometers out of town so he could show us what he eaten for breakfast that morning, and all week by the amount he was chucking up, fair play to the driver as he got out to rub his back whilst his mates laughed and took photos through the window haha.
We soon arrived in Kampot, where most got off but we changed mini vans to go on to Kep, once arriving (after a slightly traumatic ride involving nearly running into a motorbike with mother and child followed by one of the most undeveloped roads yet) we found our hotel and chilled for a short while before heading out into Crab Capital, to experience what they do best, delicious crab. We ate far too much food including banana chips, crab spring rolls, crab curry, fried chicken curry, rice, cocktails and several beers. Waddled home and had an early night. It rained constantly throughout the night and the occasional rumbles of thunder, this was our first hotel room experience without aircon just a small fan, so it was a pretty sticky uncomfortable nights sleep with the temperature not dropping much below 30 on a night.
The weather finally brightened up around 10:30am and after a chat with the hotel owner we headed off for a walk through Kep National Park. It was a lovely walk although extremely hot today, little question and quiz cards dotted along the walk, along with some pretty shy monkeys, lizards, and massive millipedes. We took 'monkey trail' which was a little overgrown and saw no monkeys haha so we ventured on to the Kep Butterfly Farm, It was a beautiful little place and free to get in with just a donation box! So well kept and some truly beautiful butterflies and flowers. We then walked back along Jasmine Valley and stopped at Kep Coffee for the best cup of coffee yet and an a slice of chocolate and peanut butter cake! Yum!
Next stop was Kep beach where we took a tuktuk (along with the tuktuk drivers little sleepy son, as today is a public holiday the little man was off school but helping Dad out and chilling in his little PJ's) back to crab market for a spot of lunch /dinner whilst looking out to sea! We walked back both having a craving for ice cream so headed to the sea front and found some tubs of lovely handmade ice cream, just after we got back to our room, the heavens opened the gales blew and the power went off, again haha but we are starting to get used to that. Later on once the rain had resided a little bit we popped down the road for a bite to eat, unfortunately one of the worst yet, Andrews "chicken" curry was in fact actual chicken feet curry, skin and toe nails the lot! Katie had super noodles reheated, so back we returned back to the hotel after a somewhat disappointing culinary experience for some more sweaty sleep. Up for an 8 o'clock bus ride to the capital Phnom Penh.
