Our Global Gallivants
Today was mostly spent in transit. A van picked us up at our hotel to transfer to the ferry pier. The inside of this van could have been on an episode of pimp my ride. Mirror on the ceiling, intricate designs in the leather/vinyl, and 11 cushy bucket seats. The driver was laughing because I was trying to take some pics of this unit. The ferry ride was pretty non eventful until we arrived at the pier. We were swarmed by taxi drivers trying to get us to hire them for the transfer to our hotel, or maybe we will need one in the future. Before we left the ferry dock, we were accosted again. Everyone has to pay 10Baht (about $.40) for a "clean up" fee. On arrival at our hotel, the front desk converts the hotel charge to Canadian dollars at a not so favourable rate and then wants to charge us a 3% fee for paying with a credit card. We finally got that sorted out, paid in Baht without the additional 3%. Not such a great introduction-seems very Mexican. Went for a walk down the beach and had dinner on the patio.
