After a 3 hour bus journey we arrived at the wine town of Santa Cruz. We left the bus station thinking that the hostel we intended to stay in was only a 5minute walk. Walking in the hustle and bustle of this small town with baking heat is not surprisingly not much fun. After 30mins of traipsing around we finally fell upon Hostel Vida 2000.
We had been told about this hostel and how it had a pyramid in the garden which you could stay in. Unfortunately this was already occupied, we however stayed in one of the other family run hostel rooms. The theme to this place was along the lines of mystical new world, although a little cheesy was quite quirky.
The following day was Reet´s birthday. We planned to go to the vineyards for some local wine sampling. We got dropped off at Montes vineyard by the son of the hostel owner. We had a guided tour of this ultra modern location. After the guided tour was tasting time. We sampled everything that they had, some a couple of times. Rather strangely though all of the wine they had to offer wasn´t particularly nice so we left empty handed.
On returning to the hostel we went our for some birthday dinner. Meanwhile the hostel´s owner and son had gone out and bought a surprise birthday cake for Rita. Upon our return the lights were dimmed and the surprise birthday cake was brought out to a chorus of multinational Happy Birthdays.
Good times, but time to move on to the next place - Pichilemu - time for some surfing.
