So after a 5 hour journey we arrived in Punta Arenas, the most southerly point we would venture to in all our travels. Strange town that at first glance looks run down and shabby, but then you realise that this place is not so far from Antartica and must get battered in the winter.
Not so much to do in this town bar go and see some more penguins. We ummed and ahhhd on whether we should pay to see more peguins. In end we decided to go and were very glad we did so. There were over 80,000 on this small island called Isla Magdellana. After a 2 hour boat journey, on which we were graced by some Commersons Dolphins chasing the boat. On arrival we immediately realised that we made the right decision. Although you dont have free reign to walk all over the island, you have to walk in a roped off path, the penguins are more than happy to cross your path. We spent an hour as close to penguins as I think we will ever get.
A truly enjoyable day, we headed back and ate some dinner and chewed the cud with a really friendly French guy for a couple of hours.
The rest of the time here was just spent relaxing.
