What Is Happening??
After a morning bus tour of Madrid, we took a drive out to Segovia. This is an ancient little place that was conquered by the Romans in 80 BC. It is surrounded by this massive wall that you can see in the photo. It comprises of a multitude of these little streets that the locals somehow manage to squeeze their vehicles down. We spent the afternoon and evening strolling around and getting lost in this maze. If you have a squiz at the piccys for Spain you will see Alcazar, this was the inspiration for the Walt Disney castle. The Cathedral at this place was amazing. It is a wonder how they manage to build it so long ago. I went for a little bit of a stroll through it. It was full of pictures and statues of Jesus on the cross and two other chaps either side (please excuse my ingnorance, I am not at all upto date with this type of info), still it was a good little tour. Having wandered around in a trance for several hours it was time for an Irish pint, so Dan and I found a cosy little place down some alleyway and proceded to share a pint with nobody but the bar lady and a Guiness advertisment with a pelican and the words 'See the pelican our feathered freak, with a rather copious beak, Guiness provides the answer why, it is for a weeks supply'
After a cold beer we tried the local dish named the 'Paella', basically a risotto with fresh seafood baked within, quite tasty. We spent a few more hours wandering around and finally made our journey home sometime around midnight. Segovia provided some great walking and a wonderful afternoon.
