Wowsers!!! Swimming with turtles was taken to a whole new meaning as we dropped our bags off when we arrived and headed straight out with our snorkels. Not only did we see 4 turtles but we were about a foot away from them as they chilled on the coral, nibbling at it and occasionally majestically swimming up for a gulp of air. I just can't get enough time with these beautiful creatures, until the warm waters of the Bali sea actually started to make me shiver because I wasn't actually doing any swimming, more just floating and admiring.
Yet more trangia meals here to keep it cheap and tasty. The fact we don't actually have our travel debit card anymore and it would cost us more to withdraw money is motivation enough to help us save every penny.
Besides snorkeling on Meno we spent days walking around the island, chatting with other travellers, having a few quiet Bintangs in the porch of the bungalows and cooling off in the air con.
The last night on Gili Meno was my favourite, swimming with turtles until dusk, spotting 11 in total and plenty of colourful fish too. Both relieved but annoyed we didn't get to see reef sharks. Although I'm pretty sure I'd have panicked if I had actually seen one.
Sad to be saying goodbye to Asian beaches soon but Australian beaches will be a fair substitute. Still feeling nervous about the trip to Sydney and the thought of trying to secure jobs and a flat etc. Fingers crossed it will all get sorted once we're there though.
This has got to be my favourite island of Asia I think. Quiet, beautiful, amazing swimming and snorkeling, a cute little Indonesian village and a friendly bunch of travellers to share it with.
