G'day Groovers and Shakers!!
After leaving beautiful and chilled Hoi An, we went another 12hrs south on another sleeper bus to the town of Nha Trang. After anticipating that Hoi An was just the start of the beautiful beaches of Vietnam, we were a tad dissapointed when we arrived to discover that, yes, Nha Trang had nice long stretches of beach, but they were dirtier than expected, and the Hawkers are experts at hassling tourists.
I guess we should have expected it at a place that is labelled as a bit of a tourist destination though, so all good, no harm done. Stu also mastered the "No means NO!" look and I think word got out, 'cause we were hardly hassled at all on the second day we were there.
We stayed in Nha Trang for 2 days - just enough to get gloriously sun-burnt and munch divine Pork rolls (yum-o) - and came 5 hours South to Mui Ne. It is is the 'adventure beach', with beautiful, clean, stretches of beach, where kite boarding, sand boarding, and surfing are the main attractions.
Although it has been raining on and off, we have really enjoyed being here. Had a bit of a massive night with some other travellers we met, partied until 3am, then jumped on a tour at 4:30am to watch the sun rise and go sand-boarding. Must admit, the dunes were a tad smaller than 'in the brochure' (something we are getting used to) and 'cause it rained so much, was v slow. But we did see a local couple getting married on the dunes which was really special!
We also went to the fishing village, which was quite amazing to see!!! It was such a hussle and bussle of fishermen going out in their giant half-coconut-shaped boats, catching hundreds of fish, bringing them back, locals rushing to crowd around them and fill their baskets with these tiny silver fish (which I suspect is to make the delightful sweet fish sauce this town is remowned for), and load the baskets onto these ancient motorcycles and drive, or carry, the fish to wherever they need to go. Amazing to be amongst it!!
So from here we are taking a bus down to Saigon before hopefully flying to Cambodia.
We are really hoping for a sitting bus, and may need to try to bribe our way onto one - maybe Stu can sing Karaoke to us or I can read my book out loud.
Right now I am going to have a quick look-see for flghts and will hopefully be in touch over the next week or 2 from Siem Riep. Bring on the BBQ spiders!!!!
Until then, have fun!! Loads of love
