Up by the alarm, and out the door for the boat. Today we are leaving Phu Quoc Island and heading to Ho Chi Minh (Saigon) City, with a 1 night lay-over in Can Tho.
Two fresh plain baguettes were grabbed for breakfast, as we jumped on the 2.5hr boat ride to Rach Gia port on the main land.
In Rach Gia we shared a bowl of Pho on the roadside whilst waiting for our onward bus to Can Tho.
The onward bus journey was not great. Somehow there were 22 of us, and a dog, in a 15 seater mini van! We were the only westerners on this local bus, as the tourist bus was full. It was cramped and smelly. The dog, which was a puppy shoved in a wicker basket under our seat, managed to c*** a leg and piss on Siobh's feet! Not a happy Siobhan! We, along with a couple of locals, were kicked out about 2hrs into the journey and asked to wait on the roadside until another bus came who will take us onwards (this is always a bit of a hit 'n' miss moment lol; will we be left here? Will someone actually pick us up?
We're used to this now, so we just sit and wait for the unpredictable outcome. More times than not we do actually get picked up.
When we got off the bus Siobh immediately went on a mission for the bathroom to clean herself up lol! Unable to find one, she convinced the scooter cleaning shop next door to hose-down her legs phhhaaaaa!!
As informed, another bus did come and we got to Can Tho as planned for 3pm.
A quick hunt around the bus station-area and we found a guesthouse for the night; pretty basic but did the trick. Not a word of English was spoken (of which we quite like) by any one of the 4 little old ladies that ran the guesthouse. $10 got us a room with a bathroom, air-con, and speedy wifi.
Except for a floating food-market in the mornings, Can Tho has/is nothing but a travel hub in the center of the Mekon Delta.
Dinner for the evening proved hard to find, but was eventually hunted down. Freshly made pizza tonight and it was really good!
The long travel day meant in bed early to watch a movie and get some sleep before moving on again tomorrow to Ho Chi Min City, formally Saigon.
