G'day Pommy's! lol only kidding!
Hope you are all well! Its nice to hear from you all so I know what everyone is up to!
As you know I left Melbourne yesterday for Sunny Sale in the county of Gippsland to become a farmer! I arrived early eveing last night and met me family- they are really nice! A couple called Belinda and Ben, 2 children called Abbie (age 6) and William (age 4) as well as 2 dutch girls and my friend Shain!
The house is a bit like a chalet in the middle of a field, have a pet cow and a hammock out the front- exactly what you imagine! Surrounded by cows, dogs cats, chickens- you name it!It was a little strange walking into a family when I arrived but they made me feel welcome and today I fit right in like I have been here for ages!
Today I managed a few farmer duties- including unloading and cleaning trailers (with a pressure washer- whoop whoop!) and then I spent the afternoon hearding cows!
OMG! It was so good (for what it is!). We had to separate to calves from thier mums so Belinda could decide which one was going to be killed for the meat. We also had to separate the sick one from the rest of the heard- sounds easy but bearing in mind we had 4 pens and about 40 cows and we didnt even touch them! harder than it sounds! When we did separate it we had to give it some medicine- also no easy task but it was great watching Belinda and Ben try and suceed! Once we had done that we went to see the bull and then had to move all the cows to another pen about a mile away! So me and Sahin hearding 40 cows- OMG! It was actually pretty easy once I got the hang of it so we managed it no problem! In fact Belinda said she was impressed by how well i did with no experience so thats a good sign!
I also went to feed the chickens and to check if they had layed any eggs- not my lucky day though! I did try thier eggs though and was very impressed! the meat is pretty good too!
We are all just chilling now watching the soccer as we have had dinner! Be going to bed soon, Belinda is working at her other job tomorrow so she said we can lay in as long as we want and have a lazy morning which sounds like a great job!!
She also said that me and Shain will be off to market at the weekend to sell the meat so im really lokking foward to that but in the meantime im going to get stuck in and get as messy as possible! ha ha!
Keep me undated with whats going on guys!
Speak soon. Love you all xxxxx
