Noyelles Travels 2017
Monday 27th February
An almost dead calm day with fog. The decks were quite wet so we assumed that it had rained in the night.
d*** went to a lecture on Aboriginal Art of the Canning Stock Route & Spanish & Jane was at Bridge lessons in the morning before a lecture by Dickie Arbiter on life as a press secretary with the Royal Family. Jane went to the Passenger Choir concert & after dinner we went to the Classical Recital &Jane went to a dance show, a 2 pianist concert was with Freya & Robin in a bar whilst d*** had an early night.
Tuesday 28th February
We arrived at the heads of Port Phillip Bay at about 5am & Jane mistakenly got up at 6am as we made our way into Port Melbourne. The weather was wonderful at about 26°C rising later to 32°C & Melbourne looked quite stunning.
At breakfast at 8am, Jane received a message from Janine, a Book Club member now living in Eltham, that she was waving at the ship from the pier. We waved back & caught up with her at about 8.30 & had a coffee next to the end of the 109 tram line. She had left Eltham at 6am to come & see the ship arrive.
Paul, Dick's old friend from flatting in the 1960s in Finchley, picked us up & we drove around Port & South Melbourne before going to his sister’s unit on the 9th floor, in Albert Park. They had seen us coming up the Bay & had sent me a photo of the ship. Here we met Gill & Tom before we had to go to meet Patrick at 1.00pm for lunch in town.
It was great to see him well again as he hadn’t been too well at Christmas. From there we took trams to his house in Moor St, Fitzroy, where Camilla let us in before going to collect the boys from school while we baby sat Harriet, the youngest child. Much to Jane’s delight, Harriet awoke & was happy to see her & we amused her until David & Isaac returned from school with Camilla at about 4.15.
At 5pm we took a couple of trams from Fitzroy to Port Melbourne & boarded the ship at about 6.15. It sailed at about 7pm & after dinner we went to see 'Bridget Jones’s Baby’ which was great fun.
As we walked out on deck we saw the pilot being picked up outside the heads in a very smart new pilot boat. It is quite exciting as the pilot boat comes right alongside the ship & the pilot jumps omn to the boat before it peels away for shore.
We went to bed exhausted.

Gordon and Lynne Hi Jane, I expect you will be a champion Bridge player at the end of your cruise and d*** will be speaking fluent Spanish!
Janine Was terrific to see the "Aurora" bathed in golden light & to see you both. Children growing up - Harriet like a beautiful doll! Looking forward to Sydney entry! Janine x
