Natalie's adventures
We left Apollo Bay around 8.30am for another day of driving and sight seeing. We set off once more along the Great Ocean Road. Our first stop of the day (well after the petrol station) was the Otway Fly. The Otway Fly is a raised canopy walk through part of the Otway forest. There was nobody else there when we arrived so we had the walk to ourselves. The walkway is a big metal structure winding through the trees with a tower in the middle. At the top of the tower you are around 43 metres above the forest floor. We wandered around for an hour or so, Louise desperately looking for her first glimpse of Australian wildlife. We saw a few birds but nothing else, not even an Anaconda!! Driving along the coast, we stopped at Gibsons steps and climbed down them onto the beach for our first look at the 12 Apostles. Then it was on a bit further till we got to the Apostles viewing centre. We did the touristy bit and took lots of photos before heading on to look at more rock formations (trust me, there are alot of rocks to look at along this part of the coast). We saw London Bridge, Muttonbird Island, The Grotto, The Bay of Islands, The Arch and lots of other rocks. We went down onto a beach at one point and decided to find out how cold the ocean was, so we got as close as we could to the waters edge without getting our shoes wet and were trying to reach into the surf to test the water. Luckily I looked up just as a huge wave was forming in front of us and shouted to the other two. We all ran up the beach as fast as we could just before it broke. If we had stayed where we were, we would have got soaked, it went about 3 metres past where we had been standing!! We went to Logans beach to do a bit of Whale spotting but all we saw were more surfers. Then it was on to Port Fairy to find our hostel for the night.
