Brisbane
Had a lie in the next morning and decided to go for a wander to the main shopping area nearby to stock up on warm clothes, as there are lots of sales on. After wandering up and down all day, we both managed to come away with some sensible warm items for the remainder of the trip. We also saw an excellent farmers market, where there was an enormous queue of people waiting to buy a bratwurst - its like they don't have sausages here, which we know for a fact is untrue. We had lunch in a food court where at 2pm they reduced everything to after lunch prices - total bonus. After three meals a day on the boat, we are both now starving all the time.
On the whole, Brisbane initially appears a fairly faceless big city - it's a lot like London. We have decided we're not massive fan's of cities anymore and prefer coastal towns, islands and the bush.
It was the State of Origin rugby in the evening, New South Wales v Queensland, so we went to the bar downstairs at the hostel to watch. We also had beers and a burrito each for dinner. Class. It was a good game and Queensland won after a dodgy second half. The game finished just in time, as the bar was just starting to get rowdy for a 'Beach Party'. It was like our personal hell, although with a $300 prize pot for the wet t-shirt comp, it was starting to look tempting!
Tomorrow we are getting the bus to Murwillumbah - try saying that three times quickly - to stay with Randy for a few days. It is in the middle of nowhere, and he has promised to show us some excellent local sights - including the 'wildlife' in his local pub. Should be an adventure!
