The beginning & One night in Bangkok
So here we are in Bali after a long and arduous journey.
We're sat on our balcony planning the next couple of days, its about 29 degrees and switching between sun and thunderstorms. We have also just watched an excellent lizard climbing a palm tree, Nik has named him Sid. This makes the journey worth it.
But to return to the beginning, lets review our brief Bangkok visit.
We failed to get a BA upgrade despite our best efforts, but other than that the flight was ok, on time etc.
Got to Bangkok where they tried to not let us in the country (seriously) but we wangled it in the end. As we had 16 hours to kill, we decided to take the express bus to the city. Express is a loose term in Thailand I feel. Took an age to come and then we got stuck on it in traffic for a couple of hours! Bangkok is a tricky place to find something to do in, especially when you have a map that is in fact wrong. However, we ended up having a Singha in the middle eastern part of town in a bar playing Blue, sandwiched between an Iraqi café and a hookah bar. Went for a trundle through the riot blockade - amazing piece of architecture in itself. Mainly the protest is someone with an annoying voice shouting and singing down a loudspeaker - not pleasant. After some quick noodle and sushi action (and being offered birds in a box and seeing a feral kitty), Hannah had had enough and we zoomed back to the airport. En route we saw a lot of police and army as something was brewing for that evening. Also we saw a gigantic market.
Spent the rest of the night at Bangkok airport. Bad place to sleep. Two words - metal chairs! But we passed the night with beers and coffee, UFC on the laptop and a sighting of Thailand's cheerios - their actual national cheerleading squad. As we realised we had no pics of Thailand, we took some of the airport as this was our main experience anyway! Bangkok gets about 1/10. That is for the weather.
