So, something more about our fabulous week in the promised city of Rio de Janeiro. We were hosted by three very very very nice boys, who were great hosts in everything, but they didnt party with us because they had to study. So, we had our time, found a lot of new friends and conquested the city on our own. The first afternoon when we showed up in the city, we got to know how lovely brasilian taxi drivers can be, which means we paid triple amount of money in order just to be dumped in a street corner in middle of nowhere. Well, to be honest, that was the only bad experience with rio taxis - all the other turned out to be really nice and we never got overcharged or dumped in corners again. The week went in window shopping, (everything was terribly overpriced, though we had to pay something anyway because of the heat), partying and in taxi driving. Nothing got robbed and Rio turned out to be quite safe city, but nevertheless, the streets in night time, or busses, are not so much fun to walk alone, or even in two. We also amazed the varietions of brazilian bathrooms, they are always so suprising. They get blogged all the time, and it is always a lottery won when it actually works, and the water goes down instead of coming up. One bathroom had a light which worked only when moving in there, but it didnt know what was going on in the actual toilets, so you had to pee while waiving your hand out of the door. Much fun. Well... sorry about that, but the toilets have been a hot subject in dinner conversations during the week. Changing subject might be proper anyhow.
So the carnival, carnival carnival. As everybody who knows us knows, we didnt think about getting the tickets to Sambodromo, the samba parade, before hands. The travel bibles said anyway, that a lot of people are selling them to tourist right there, with priced way above normal reason. This turned out to be really true - finding tickets once here is not a problem at all. But to make the story more exciting, I will go on in order. We had no plan whatsoever, but were dancing in a samba club near downtown, one beautiful sunday night. About two o´clock in the night, we decided to check out the party going on in the parade, and took a taxi there. Once we showed up, and had no idea how to get in, we suddenly were very delighed to see a lot people with their dancing costumes. We started to follow them up, but in the opposide direction (since they obviously were coming FROM sambodromo) and in a few minutes we found ourselves inside the party. Yes, no kidding, we were there, with all the dancers, at the end of sambodromo, checking out their view of the party. We got a lot of picture there, with the dancers and with their costumes. And yes, it truly was AMAZING. Anyhow, we got enough of the fame, and walked out. We tried to get in the crowd with no tickets, but got no luck, but luckily we found a nice man who sold us way too cheap tickets for the next show, on Monday night. So on Monday night that was, when we finally saw the famous carnival on live. Pictures will speak more then thousand words, and even they cannot describe the real thing, but writing about it would not make much justice in any way. The last day we bought our tickets to travel to Florianopolis, in South of Brazil, to see the beaches before hitting inlands for a very long time. We still had time to check out the famous white Christ statue in the hills of Rio, and have a great dinner with our hosts. Not speak about the awesome gift that with got for them ;) Well, not much more to say about Rio, terribly overpriced but yet still amazing.
