So the last few days have been great fun! I did manage to get to the beach and the beach was beautiful, the sea was a little chilly but we still went in! When I got to the CBd that afternoon I sat in federation sq and watched the world go by for a few hours!
The following day I explored the docklands area, to save me from getting lost I asked a last what direction the docklands were in, she told me and then proceeded to walk with me chatting the whole way. She had a little baby and she lived in Melbourne, she was so friendly! So after the docklands I walked to queen Victoria market which was great fun, lots of people selling tat and lots of fresh fruit and veg and coffee! That afternoon I went back to Bourke street and watched some more live music, briefly chatted with two local Aussie guys (everyone is so friendly) and then went to hand my cv around to various places. One bar I went into asked me to make her a latte there and then....my marks and Spencer's cafe experience came in handy! She told me 'it wasn't the best latte she had drunk but it was something to work with!'
So that evening I had a lovely surprise as Uncle David was in town so we went and had dinner together at a really quirky restaurant called Gills. When I got back to the hostel I met Lyndsey and we watched a live band in the hostel bar....again we were approached by drunk Australians this time one was very drunk he could barely sit on his stool let alone string a sentence together, another thought he has the gift of the gab and didn't stop talking and the other just piped in every so often with 'ay' (who knows why!). But it did make it an amusing evening! So Friday I had a trial at the cafe! It went well, well so the manger said but I had one lady tell me it was the worst coffee she had tasted and another got sent back because it wasn't hot enough (they obviously don't understand that extra hot means burning of the milk, dah!). After my trial I went to get my bag from the lockers...I forgot which one it was in so another member of staff kept asking me which was it was in. I had forgotten so I didn't know....she responded with 'if you don't tell me which one it is in then I can't help you' .....I don't know which one it is in, that's the problem!!!! Obviously I didn't respond with that I just laughed and replied with 'silly me'. Finally I found my damn bag, it was in the locked right next to her head....so as I pulled my bag out the door knocked her face, by the look she gave me you would have thought I had purposefully tried to knock her out! Needless to say I don't think I was her favourite! So surprisingly they gave me another trial but since I have turned it down because they wanted me to work over Xmas and ny and I want to go to Sydney, so the job hunt continues!
That evening I went for a drink with Lyndsey and my cousins friend from home and his friend. Was great fun!
Today Lyndsey and I went to federation sq to watch some street performers, the first was a really funny comedian...he picked me to be his assistant which was scary but fun! So then we watched a magician, he also picked me to be his assistant! Not so fun as I had to throw swords to him but he gave me a balloon flower so I was happy!
Never have I ever seen so many 'alternative people' in once place! On out walk into the city I saw a guy dressed in a morph suit, just casually walking along as if it was normal! The other night there was a guy dressed in a pig onesie carrying a wooden hippo! One street performer was playing the 'air' guitar to raise money to buy a real guitar. One guy was in the middle of the path dancing! I think the most appropriate phrase would be 'only in Melbourne' everything seems accepted and normal here!
