I feel like this last week has given me the opportunity to reflect on my last six months as a backpacker. Time as a backpacker has been incredible, I have met wonderful people and have taken away so much from each and everyone, noting characteristics and personality traits which everyone loves and also realising through others areas that I need to work on. This journey has truly made me learn to apreciate the little things in life like being able to read a book in a random park in the sun on a sunday afternoon. I vow never to go a whole day without noticing what has made me happy during that day.
This week has been great, I started applying to jobs as soon as I landed in Sydney, I had two interviews with recruitment agencies on the monday and then got offered a job (which I had applied for independantly) on the wednesday. My new job is in a Juice Bar and I just love it! I completely think that things happen for a reason and I am grateful that I didnt get a job through the angencies now because the Juice bar is just a 10 minute walk down the road, the people I work with are lovely (it is like a small family, well actually, half of them are family) and I am able to do other jobs around this job.
Last week I went for a bike ride around a national park which was lovely and beautiful! As I was sitting next to the waters edge I noticed a huge grey dark cloud heading my way but chose to ignore it (as if that would stop the looming rain!). Ignoring it unfortunately did not work as 10 minutes later I was completely sodden! Now I am trying to enjoy everything and make the best out of a bad situation so I started to laugh. I cycled back to Sue's, soaking and laughing! I was the only one out on a bike in shorts and t-shirt so it felt really quite liberating! I think someone was out to push me that day because then my chain fell off, which made me chuckle even more. So here I am, on the side of the road, in the pouring rain (when it rains here, it rains hard) trying to fix the chain and still laughing....I mean what else could I do, crying certainly wasnt going to fix the bike, or make the sun come out! Eventually the chain was back on and I made it back to Sue's and jumped straight in the shower!
I spent a few days/evenings at the beach reading my book/people watching and planning Asia which was lovely!
And I had a brilliant skype call from one of the co-ordinators at Teach First. I cannot wait to become a primary school teacher in a disadvanted school and work towards ending education equality. I couldn't imagine going through school, university, exams with no support at home. Even if I just help one child believe in themselves and give them the confidence to work towards a better future for themselves then I will be happy :) I am super excited for the challenge that will lies ahead when I get home!

Nan & Gramps May. A super blog Nina - you certainly are taking a good look at yourself and what makes you tick - good for you. Yes it is very often the little things in life which are most rewarding and learning about people too because we all differ - we all have our good and not so good sides - travelling has been good for you! Come back safely though as we all miss you!
