This past weekend has been absolute bliss. On Friday we all went out for a few drinks in town which was great fun and then Saturday, Chris (a fabulous gay that I have met at the volunteer house) and I went to a hotel for the night! It was beautiful, we were given a fruit shake on arrival and then were taken to our room. I had a real clean bathroom and a real bed, I was so so happy! So I enjoyed my first nice shower since getting to Cambodia....there were no bugs, or toads! The rest of the afternoon we watched tv and chilled by the pool and then that evening are western food and drank red wine! It was beautiful! I slept like such a baby in the real bed! On Sunday we enjoyed a lovely continental breakfast and then chilled by the pool and had reflexology on out feet! Pure bliss. The staff told us that they found it funny and nice that we stayed the whole day (they didn't know what out living conditions were like obviously!)
We then went into the city for a wander round the market and I had my eyebrows waxed, worse job ever not only did miss all the wandering hairs but she left my skin all red! I need Hayley Newman!
The market was good fun and I really practised my good bartering skills! Then it was back to the volunteer house to rejoin the bats, rats, toads and bugs!
Monday was a great day, I taught the morning B class with my weekend buddy Chris. We covered occupations in which I felt that my artistic skills really excelled in (not!) and then we taught them how to explain their favourite things. They are a great class, there certainly are some characters in the class but I have really enjoyed them. It has been brilliant to see them grow, develop and learn. The past few weeks have been great, I feel like I have given something back to the world which has given me so much over the past 9months. I covered the same topics with my afternoon b class but managed to introduce the word and idea of using 'because'. When I first started teaching his class I found it challenging because of the enthusiastic boys, but this is now my favourite class! After giving them lots of encouragement and working one on one with them they have really developed and their level of concentration has really improved. When they understood a new concept their smiles on their faces just made it all worth while! I have loved it! And my evening class was just as good, we reviewed how we use 'the' and 'a'.
Yesterday we went to Angkor wat for sunrise which was really good. We were up at 3.30 and left at 4am and then got to Angkor wat for just after 5am to watch the sunrise. It was beautiful and much better than I had imagined! We explored temples until 1ish and by this point we were pritty templed out. But I have complete admiration for the propel who built these temples with the most basic tools. They were incredible! It felt like I was walking around an enchanted story!
