Yesterday was a great day, I was able to teach at the old school. My morning class included 8 students who were of similar ability but there were two naughty boys which I really enjoyed! I felt that if I sat down with me and talked through work and then praised them when they got their work correct then they might behave better, and it worked (although one boy had to be moved)! I adore the look on their faces when they realise that there work is correct, they have the biggest grins and such pride in their eyes! Two little girls at the front are very intelligent so it is great to be able to push them!
The afternoon class was different, we had 3 boys and one girl and retaining their full attention was tough but I think we achieved it and I felt that they learnt a lot :)
That evening (after watering the plants) we learnt that the next day was labour day which meant a day off so everyone has a beer and decided to go into siem reap for drinks. So we all jumped into the tuk tuks and rode off into siem reap. We has a few drinks at a bar called x bar which is a roof top bar with a skate ramp so we all climbed up and sat on the side of the ramp and drank :) next was a club called temple and the onto Angkor what? Where we danced on the tables! The tuk tuk that we got home was fairly rickety but it's all a good experience ay!
This morning only half the group rose early so those who were up went to the school to complete some jobs. I decided to sweep some of the classrooms, there were lots of Cambodian children around so two of the girls came in and helped me sweep and tidy both classrooms! How lovely! We then painted the fences that surround the school. It was so so hot and I got paint everywhere, all over my sunglasses and all over my hands which meant that I couldn't wipe the sweat off my face, as you can imagine we all looked lovely! But it is fab to know that we are making an impact on someone's life :)
This afternoon was like another world....after our very hot morning we went to a pool that belongs to a 5* hotel and had a massage all for £2.50!! Beautiful afternoon, lovely toilets and showers will never be taken for granted again!
As you drive along the streets in the tuk tuk you are memorised by the events going on around you, entire families including the children are working on building projects, no hammock is empty as everyone seems to be sleeping, entire families are riding on motorbikes, drivers has various things hanging off their motorbikes, people are cycling, cars are full of people. It is a completely different culture but such a brilliant experience!! :)
