Hello everyone,
Blimey its been a while since we've blogged. Lots to catch up on, lets hope the memories have stuck =)...
We left HCMC for Dalat on the poshest bus we have been on in our entire trip, possibly lives (neck pillows provided and even a free bottle of water each). The trip up to the central highlands, where Dalat is located, was the most memorable part of the next few days, and not because the views were that breath-taking... Dalat was really just a bit of a disappointment. To be fair in parts on the journey up through the mountains, there were moments which were really quite beautiful, but in comparison to the other places we've been (Laos, Thailand & Malaysia) the scenery just didn't compare.
We arrived quite late at night, and were immediately bombarded with offers to go on 'easy rider tours'. Dalat, it turns out, is synonomous with tours. It was something we definately did not expect. We were thinking beautiful, quiet mountain retreat, but it was infact a concrete town. We decided to give it a fair go and walked down to the lake thinking it might be a nice walk around it (it was recommended everywhere as romantic!). However when we got down there, half the lake ceased to exist. I guess it had dried up and there was just a horse roaming in the reeds. Around the corner there was indeed a very small lake with dirt sides by a busy road. Although it looks lovely in the picture we had to really try to get a nice shot lol.
It looked like the town had once been pretty as there were lots of old colonial houses hidden away, but there had obviously been a big tourist boom which was a shame. Our hotel however, was really nice. We even got upgraded to a huuuge and beautiful room as they were expecting some noisy guests on our floor! Very nice of them. One thing that was good about Dalat, and almost made the trip up there worthwile, was the food!! We had the most amazing pork and ginger clay pot, some wicked curry and lovely fresh veg and fruit as it is all grown up there. It was also quite cold up there. We knew it would be cooler but it was honestly more like English weather, we were bloody freezing (no wonder at 23c! lol) We were wearing hoodies and extra layers and trainers and socks and were still chilly haha. It was quite nice at night though, to be wrapped up in a duvet and feel cosy when its cold outside. I miss that lol.
The next day we decided to move on and got a night bus up to Hoi An, which we were quite excited about and didn't really know what to expect! Will write about it next.........
love you all muchly xxxxxxxx
