"LA proved too much for the man..." (Gladys Knight in case you didn't know).
LA was so much better than I thought it would be, had very little expectations but really enjoyed it. So I thought this entry can be split out into the following categories food, accommdation, sights, and stars. Feel free to skip to any that might be of most interest to you - I won't mind.
Food
One of my favourite subjects to talk about. The food here was pretty darn good. The highlight was the Gridle Cafe (pictures to follow, I'm afriad) where Katie and I shared breakfast eggs and apple/cinnamon pancakes. Now these were not just any pancakes as a) they were huge and b) they just melted in your mouth leaving a taste of heaven. AMAZING.
In the hostel we could make our own pancakes each morning so I though I'd be pretty good at this. Unfortunatley I added too much batter to the pan and after 20minutes of cooking I had more of a cake than anything else. Sigh.
Also went to an awesome place called 24 hr kitchen where I had a humungous (is that a word) sarnie. Best still I had left overs for the next day. So that shoudl be enough about food now me thinks.
Accommodation
So the hostel was pretty good. A bit of a university halls meets auberge espagnole melange of people. Everyone was uber friendly and we had a great pub crawl out with them one night. Even making friends with some mexicans who Katie and I will meet up again with in Mexico City. Also met some pretty cool aussies ( I know they are normally arrogant a*******s but these were lovely).
Sights
So we did the normal tourist stuff and saw the Hollywood sign, Chinese theatre, Kodak theatre blah blah blah. We also drove down to Newport to find Seth Cohen from the OC. Unfortunately we couldn't find him - sob. The drive down was pretty fun and stopped off on the way back at Huntington and Santa Monica piers. There was a really cute street market in Huntington which was fun. We also spent the day trying to find Katie a charger for her camera as she left it at home. After a late night trip to a mall in the middle of nowhere we still came back empty handed.
Stars
So after a 4 day look out for stars, we saw nobody. But had fun driving through Bel Air, Beverly Hills, down Rodeo Drive and stalking some celeb houses on the Hollywood Hills. We also did a walking tour of celeb houses with a dude that reminded me just of Greg Proops from Whose Line Is It Anyway - he was really odd but funny. He works as a children entertainer for a show so I helped him practice his lines so I think I have almost made it in Hollywood. We wondered around Bel Air pretending to be his architecture students trying to admire the balustrades as opposed to trying to peer through the windows. We did see MJ's house, Playboy mansion, Julia Roberts place and quite a few more.
So that's my list done for LA. It was a fun place but huge so glad we had a car to cruise around in. Yes I am totally loving the jeep.
Until next time America
