Hello all! Sorry it's been a while! We've been very busy! So since we last wrote, we left Rockhampton and drove down to Fraser Island where we had two nights. We stayed in brilliant little dormitories - we had a communal areas with 4/5 bedrooms spreading off them and we were sharing with two other couples who we get on really well with so had an awesome time! Our first night we had a fancy dress theme - no clothes!! Most of us went in togas, but Phil covered a white sheet just in leaves! We all had an awesome night! The next morning we were up early to get on a 4WD Bus around the island. We had a walk through a beautiful rainforest and there was a creek flowing over sand and when you stopped and listened there was no noise at all! We then drove to McKenzie Lake, which was amazing - the sand was 99.9% silicon and you could exfoliate your skin when you rubbed wet sand over it, or clean your jewelery! So I have a beautiful shiny Tiffany bracelet again!
The next day we set off to Brisbane and stayed slightly out the city in a Farm! The rooms were in tin sheds sort of, and we had electric blankets which we had to use all night, but it was so much fun. We were taught Bush Dancing and had the best ever home cooked meal cooked by the family who owns the farm. There were kangaroos everywhere and you could feed and pet them - we saw joeys in the mum's pouches as well! We were only there one night and spent a few hours in Brisbane City Centre. Phil gwapped at all the massive finance buildings whilst Nikki hit the shops and brought some Ugg boots!! Nikki didn't manage to meet up with Laura, as we were short on time and have decided to carry on with the Contiki tour down to Sydney.
So our next stop was on the Gold Coast in a fabulous hotel - we had a lounge, eating area, dishwasher ALL separate from the bedroom - INCREDIBLE! That night it was our friend, Neil's birthday and we went to a restaurant called Draculas. You had to take a ghost train to the dining area and a caberet performed whilst we ate and they put on full performance after the meal which was full of comedy acts! We loved every moment of it!
On Wednesday we got up early to learn how to surf, although it had to be cancelled as the waves were too small. So we headed back to bed to prepare ourselves for SKYDIVING!!! There were 5 of us from our group who did it and 3 went in the first plane and Phil and I followed in the second. We varied between excitement and pure nerves, but we did it! Nikki jumped out first and couldn't even look out the plane on the way up! She didn't really enjoy the freefalling - was a bit too intense when falling 210kph for 45 seconds! But once the parachute opened it was incredible. Phil had a bit of a different experience - loving the freefall, but having a slight panic when his cords in his parachute got tangled as it opened! His guide instructed him to kick vigorously to spin themselves as they headed out to sea! It was quickly sorted, and later the guide told us it had happened before but described it as a 'hassle' - Phil didn't see it this way!
We are currently in Coffs Harbour on our last night of tour and have just booked all our accomodation in Sydney, Ayres Rock and Alice Springs! We have tried to upload photos but it took too long and we ran out of money and this computer doesn[t accept our USB wires - we will do it as soon as we can!
Love to you all - Sexton family hope you are having a fun holiday and arrived safely. And Laws family keep enjoying the Devon sun :)
Phil and Nikki xx
