Nikki's World Travels
"in the jungle the mighty jungle the lion sleeps tonite............." so we left cuzco and got an one of the worst flights of my life to puerto maldonado. The flight was only supposed to last 25mins which seems ridiculous but it was more like 40 and the turbulance was awful - i had jo next to me tryin to read a ceviche recipe to take her mind off of the bumpy ride while i just clutched on to my seat whatever use that makes!!
So arrived in puerto maldonado then took a bus then a boat to get to our lodge. Boat ride was about 3hours maybe more but had some food on the boat - some lovely yuka and other peruvian delights. Got to the lodge and had a welcome video followed by some more food followed by a night walk in the jungle. This part was great as could hear loads of birds and animal noises all around you. We saw a tarantula, a snake, some forgs (one found by me) and other insects. At one point we all turned off our torches and could see absolutely nothing - q eerie! Our lodge was q cool - it had no electricty just candle light so we had to make sure not to catch anything alight.
Next day we wentto a plantation where we learnt all about different fruits in the jungle and got to try a load of them too like starfruit, sapote, lima, papaya etc. Back at the lodge we had 2hours to spare so me, jo and amy went on a lil walk and all we found was a lil ting frog (again found by me - they must be my forte!) In the arvo we went on a nature walk and a lil boat ride on the lake where we were supposed to see Macaw up close but they were just flying in the trees above our heads - me and jo were in hysterics when they guides got excited about seeing a grey heron and a pigeon!!! On the way back in the boat we looked for a type of alligator which is ting and doesnt hurt anyone - i saw a quick flash of ones head and that was about it!! That night me, jo and amy enjoyed a couple bottles of wine before heading to bed as tomo have to get up at 4.30!!
So we left the lodge at 5 and took a boat, then a bus, then a plane, then a bus then we arrived in lima!! The jungle was good but a shame we didnt see more wildlife - thought we would see loads but still it was fun to go!
love nikki
