We started our thailand travels in Bangkok arriving at our hotel at 9pm. We had already booked this hotel because Bangkok isnt near any beaches like most of the places in Thailand and we wanted a swimming pool to start off tanning our very pale skin. Having been travelling all day we were pretty tired when getting to the hotel but decided we would go out for one drink and see where the night took us.
They dont really have clubs in Bangkok just loads of bar along Koh San road, the main place for travellers. So we sat down at a table ordered two Chang Thailand beers and soon enough got chatting to some people at the table next to us. We got speaking to two lads from canda so Nik decided to let them know her vast knowledge of their country. 1. thats where justin bieber is from and 2. that canada exports the most christmnas trees every year (which was one of the questions on the Christmas quiz ) .. safe to say they werent that impressed lol.
We also met three women who are also teachers in beijing and started exchanghing various stories about our teaching experiences. Many beers and tequilas later in a very drunken state we decided it would be a good idea to get a tatoo. Considering how drunk we were its very surprising they let Nik have it done... even when asking her to sit on the chair to have it done she missed and fell onto the floor. but after alot of paddying and amost tears (even this drunk) Niki had ........
Made in Va China
yes Ino terrible idea. originally it was going to be Made in China due to nik slighlty chinky eyes and that were living there for a year but then Emily said Made in Va China and that sounded funnier at the time. Unfortuntely we didnt have any battery on the camera or phone as it would have been hilarious to record. As you can imagine we woke up the next day with the WORST hangover were ever had in our lives. We were planning on getting up fro breakfast and then a day of sunbathing but we didnt manage to drag ourselves out of bed until 8pm and that was only because we were starving. We then spent the night shopping in the endless cheap shops they have on Koh San road... literally would be so much cheaper to buy all your holiday clothes in Thailand.
After an early night we did actually make it up for breakfast the next day and then round the pool where we met our friend Charlie who was yet to go to sleep from the night before. When his two friends woke up later n we all spent the day together round the pool, then shopping having food and one of Thailands famous deadly buckets. Our coach jounrey to Koh Phanghan was at 9.00pm that night so after promising to meet up with our new bristol friends in their villa in Koh Samui we set off on our jounrey to Koh Phanghan for the full moon party.
We got chatting to a guy called Cale from New Zealand on the boat journey to fullmoon party island. He was telling us this would be his 19th fullmoon party and telling us all the crazy s*** he has been up to. He noticed that Emily was sea sick and kindly let us watch 'love actually' on his apple mac, she had been sick and wasnt even hungover, we are not looking forward to these boat journeys hungover. One girl was puked all over from a guy that was sick from the upper deck. Our new friend Cale then helped us to get to Haad Rin beach where we were staying. The taxi dropped us off right outside our hostel but it still took us about half hour of walking round at 8am in the heat and our backpacks until we found the place. It is quite scary being there at 8am around loads of drunken people when you are sober.
So here we are on the party island, and whats the first thing we do??? Watch the new Twilight film. Woop! Well Niki was buzzing but Emily couldn't deny a hardcore twilight fan the opportunity to watch it so she fell asleep at the bar.
We went to the beach where we quickly realised the sun screen we bought was fake, don't think we have ever burned so much. That night started fairly chilled with a few beers on the beach, we realised we are pretty aproachable in a pair as we werejoind by 2 lads from oz who were buying us drinks. I think it all went down hill when we spotted these rugby lads we gt chatting to b4 our journey here before long we were getting our faces painted in UV as spider man and running round pretending to shoot spider web out of our wrists. After that we went to the famous pool party that was amazing. We were acting like one of the lads starting water fights and getting on each others shoulders.
New year was one we will never forget but for the most part one we don't remember. It all started at around 2pm when we got on a taxi bus to go see a waterfall, we met these guys who invited us back to there really nice holiday resort, we had one beer and then went back to the beach, where we both carried on the drinking. Then came the big electrical storm, the waves were massive and in our drunken state we went wave jumping. On our way home we stumbled across a reggae bar where again we met some people and stopped for a drink. This was becoming quite the bar crawl! We never did go to see that waterfall! Getting ready for the full moon party was a big blur.
From what we remember the fullmoon party was soo good. Literally thousands of people on the beach seeing in the new year although when the clock struck 12 Emily's camera went flying in the sea. We then went up to mushroom mountain where we had heard alot of stories about the magic mushrooms. When in Rome, or Thailand in this case, we thought wed give them a try. These mushrooms are available to anyone at the bar, its the only thing they sell up the mountain so after getting one each and quickly drinking it we decided that nothing was happening so we got another and another! Then boy did they start to kick in! I think we must have sat on that mountain for at least 4 hours until the sun came up just staring laughing hiccuping and seeing crazy things! The stuff we actually laughed at would not be funny to anyone else but I do really hope Brad forgives us lmao!
Still feeling the full effects we decided it was time to head home however in our bad states we had no idea where we lived so we strolled the island for over an hour. About 8am we bumped into a few of the Sydney boys we met during the day and carried on the party with them and a few of their australian girl mates in their villa on the other side of the island. We crashed out about 2pm the next day. We definitely started the new year off with a bang however as far a mushrooms go Never again! Our heart rates still haven't fully recovered. The rest of our time in Koh Phanghan consisted of recovering from the very tragic state we had got our selves into on NYE. Nik managed to lose her Chinese bank card which is her only access to her spending money Emily lost her camera, we were cut bruised and had major blanks from the night before
Lucky for us we had random people come up to us who we apparently met the night before. Weve made quite a habit of making up random stories to people when were drunk. So we knew they definitely had the right people when they said that Nik was from Sweden and her english isnt very good But emily can speak Swedish so thats how we talk lol keeping the Svenska tradition alive from Magaluf lol
We decided to leave Koh Phanghan a day early so until the next full moon we said goodbye to this crazy island.
Koh Samui was our next stop and is only an hour ferry ride.
Fighting the hangover and sea sickness with a beer we got there in no time.. with a slight problem of having no where to stay. I think most people make there way to Koh Samui after as most hostels were booked up. We spent hours tracing around looking for somewhere, well Emily did Nik spent the day in a restaurant with two backpacks .. Strenuous work! Finally settled in a hostel we got ready and headed out. Right on the beach again we started off the night in Ark bar where we met two girls from Winchester and some Aussie lads from Melbourne. A few buckets balloons and beers later we headed to Green Mango
Carrying on the drunken stories we decided that our new names were Mary and Jo and our new Aussie friends were J and Jude.. I hope you get the link. J was also niks brother who grew up in england but moved to aus when he was older.
Rotting in bed until 4pm we made our way down to the beach. The weather hasn't really been the best for catching a tan, quite cloudy with thunderstorms but were hoping it will perk up. We have over a month to perfect our tans. Despite the worst hangover and stomach pains we raved on in Koh Samui every night .
Nik met up with a friend she used to work with in Zante and we saw some of Ems irish friends while we were here.
As most of the trip so far Koh Samui has been one big blur but we love waking up each morning laughing about last nights antics and the cringing stuff we did.
One of the nights we were sat drinking and a girl dislocated her knee at the table next to us. Her knee was still out so it wasn't the nicest thing to see. We managed to convince some of our new friends that they weren't doctors and they shouldn't be the ones to pop her knee back in place.
Forget about the gym all you need to lose weight is come to Thailand. Even with the endless amount of western food here we cant stomach more than a few mouthfuls without feeling sick. Niks lost nearly 3kg in 10 days.
This place is full of ozzys! We've never had australian friends before but now we have somewhere to stay we might just have to go
Tomorrow we start our 17 hour bus and boat journey back to Bangkok to meet up with Eve and Emma. Apart from a few cuts and brusies were good and having lots of fun... Were hoping the North of Thailand is going to be as good as the south has been.
Much love
Nik & Em
