So our original plan was to go to Laos as its not too far from Chiang Mai
and we needed to cross a border in order to extend our visas. However
we have been told of many people we have met than the tubing in Laos
(which is the main reason we wanted to go) has all been shut down due
to the amount of deaths. So we decided to tag along with Eve and Emma
to Kanchanbrui, which is a few hours from Bangkok to break up the journey
for going back down south. We soon realised that Kanchanbrui was a hotspot for middle aged English men wanting to get with Thai women. Typicaly Nik found a few men with
Thai brides from her home town of Leigh which really doesnt surprise her lol. Kanchanbruu is just of thr border of Burma and the reason we visited there was because it had alot intrestkng ww2 history and is where the film the bridge over the river kwai was filmed so as soon as we got there we booked an excersion to see all that kanchanbrui had to offer (which wasnt alot)
We first visted the national park and did get to see some pretty waterfalls
with fish that like to bite our feet. We also went to a WW2 museum to see
the Hellfire Pass where many prisoners of war were ordered by the
Japanese to build what was later known as the death railway in to Burma
under very brutal circumstances. Other than this daytrip we enjoyed a break
from drinking and topped up our tans around a pool.
So after our northern stint of Thailand it was back down to the southern
islands for more partying!! Although the 20 hour journey wasn't too bad
for us Emma wasnt too fond of a man who had his chair so far reclined he
was practically on her lap. We arrived into Phi Phi at 10am and even the
boat journey over shows the beautiful islands and amazing views it really
does look like your pulling into paradise. It was a good job we had only
booked one nights accomodation at the flower bungalows as it was
over priced for the shabby bungalow we were staying in .. it felt like we
might aswell have been sleeping outside so after food we found another
hostel to stay in for the rest of our time here.
Liz and Harriet, our friends from home were flying into Phucket on the 19th,
the same night our Aussie friends were there. As we are staying with them
for two weeks in Australia and they had been in Phucket for 4 nights we
thought this was perfect timing to meet back up with them as they knew
the best places to go in Phucket. Due to the snow in England we were
unsure whether Liz and Harriet would even make it to Thailand but as luck
would have it they arrived just in time for the pre drinks to begin. As you
can imagine we had a lot of catching up to do so it was gone midnight
before we even made it out.
The nightlife in Phucket is different to other islands and is more like clubs
which you have to pay into but was a very good night. Not wanting the night
to end when the music stopped we all opted to go skinny dipping in the
sea before calling it a night. Waking up quite hungover we manged to miss the last boat back to Phi Phi
so had to pay abit more for a private one... we said goodbye to our Aussie
friends until we see them again in Australia.
So 4 now became 6 as we arrived back in Phi Phi ready to see it would have
in store for us. Phi Phi is a very small island with no roads and you walk
everywhere. There are quite a few bars to go in at the beginning of the night
before everyone ends up on the beach. Harriet had a friend from Birmingham in
Phi Phi so we started off our night meeting up with him and his group of
Brummy friends. This groups of lads literally had the best banter and
provided us with endless amounts of entertainment and laughter during our
time here. All we did was abuse each other and they even gave Liz the very
fitting name (for anyone that knows her) of Rottweiler.
There are so many funny times and quotes of stuff that happened in
Phi Phi that no one else but us would find funny would find funny but for
our own memory and amusement here is a few:
- Steve
- My cow
- Alright wrap it up, were going home
- Do you know where the only rooftop bar in Phi Phi is?
-Ok im just gunna shove this up me and then we will go to the beach
- I f***ing love this s***!
- Human centipede
- Beer pong
After Danny and Tom left to go to Phucket us 2 harriet, Liz and Ian went
to a nice beach called Long beach for a daytrip. Ian thought he had struck
lucky taking 4 blondes to the beach and when asked off people how he'd
managed to pull it off we thought it would be funny to say he was our gay
best friend. We had a quality day and sent a few pictures back to Danny
and Tom through our whattsapp group of the fun they were missing out on.
We will all definitly miss the brummy boys but lucky that they dont live that
far away in Birmingham so a few nights out back in England im sure will
be on the cards ... We might have to wait abit longer than the rest for our
reunion as we will be back in China.
Except for the amazing nightlife Phi Phi is one of the most beautiful places
in the world... so of course we had to book a day trip to see more of the island. Sea sickness and being hungover is never a very good mixture but we still managed to have alot of fun. We took a taxi boat which first took us to some beautiful coves and to monkey beach ... although we never actually saw a monkey ... we then stopped of for abit of snorkelling! The fishes here are very tropical and multicoloured and we enjoyed swimming about trying to see all yhe different kinds .. we just had to watch out for the sea erchids.
On the second stop of snorkelling only Emma and Nik opted to go in ..
but this bit of water was like being in fish foot spa! We all definitly got abit
of a laugh when Nik freaked out as we all chucked food into the sea and the
fish swarmed around her .. safe to say she didnt snorkel for very long in this
part of the sea. The next part of the day trip was a trip to Maya beach which
is where the film the beach is set. However we chose to stay on the boat as
we were hungover but the other girls enjoyed the beach for an hour.
They met some geordie lads and one of them will be on geordie shore next
season so we will definitly look out for him.
Phi Phi has been our favourite island of Thailand .. made all the better by
the people weve met here. Tomorrow we head to Koh Phanghan, which
is the last stop of our thailand travels, for our second full moon party
(Were hoping to remember this one and not lose anything)
Were meeting up with 5 of our friends from China, and looking forward
to celebrating Australia day on the 26th. Were sad that its nearly coming
to the end of Thailand touring but were so excited for Australia!
Much love
Mary & Josephine
(I dont know why we think its funny to tell people fake names when
were drunk)
