Yesterday I met the Copps family and their Auntie Kevin (he drives a mom van which apparently gives the girls a reason to tease him) they were actually on the same flights as me all the way from Calgary. We found a local restaurant had dinner a couple glasses of sangria (Sarah their 15 year old daughter may have had a sip to two too many which was good for a few laughs on the way back). They are off to start their tour with Gadventures today...
Even though it was New Years Eve it was an early night...I did wake up to the sound of fireworks around midnight though...
It's a holiday here today so there isn't much going on, I've done a bit of wandering around Central Avenue which I think will be fun to check out when things are actually open...just ate some lunch and found some wifi...
Even though San Jose is the capital city it feels like a small town, there doesn't seem to be many crowds around or that much traffic...we'll see if it's the same tomorrow when it's not a holiday
Some things I've learned so far:
1 when coming to Costa Rica learn a little more Spanish than how to order a beer (which isn't all that helpful either since I don't drink beer)
2 Apparently I look like a tourist, people are very friendly but usually start their conversation by either asking if I speak Spanish or asking where I'm from
3 the wind and humidity here have done terrible things for my hair!
The motto Costa Rica, which I was actually first told about by the American Customs officer at the Calgary airport is Pura Vida which means Pure Life...sounds like a great motto to me.
