So today started… No technically the start of this blog is the end to day 1. Basically because of ours unexpected nap, we couldn't sleep for ages. In fact we got a little over tired and suddenly everything was hilarious. I'm not even kidding here. I got to sleep first at about 2/2:30am. The other three got to sleep about 4am. Yep. 4 am. Chantelle doesn't count as she spends most of her time asleep in the hostel but hey. At least someone is.
The morning started with my alarm going off. Waking me up for 9am. Sufficient to say, no one moved and I wasn't in the mood to wake them up. So I sat on my computer and sorted the photos out on here, so if you noticed they are all captioned and titled now. ^^
Eventually Coral stirred enough that I sent her a message and after about half an hour we decided to go get breakfast for the lot of us. Which was fun. Tom had really, really enjoyed having strawberry bread yesterday. So we decided to try to get some but we couldn't find any so we picked the next best thing. Red date bread. He seemed to enjoy it so yayyee. Another thing which was easy was what drink to get Issie and Tom as they have been addicted to this grape juice. But yer. The people in eleven seven were really nice and the guy who served us the day before greeted us. They are so cute!
By the time we got back to the room, people were awake and we passed around the food. We all got ready for the day ahead, and set off to the subway station. We went to Shibuya, which is a famous shopping district in Tokyo. It was very impressive and there were cool things everywhere! Its claim to fame is its pedestrian crossing which gets very busy.
Seriously, look Shibuya up, it's the first thing they recommend to see. Second being a tribute to a dog called Hachiko. Sweet story, a bit like Bobby Greyfriars. In 1925 there was an Akito dog called Hachiko whose owner died. But the dog waited for his owner every day at the station at the train his train was due until he died himself 10 years later. Sweet but sad.
Anyway, we wandered the streets before heading into the games arcade to take PuriKura. Purikura are Japanese photo booths where friends can take photos together and then decorate them. The thing with Purikura though are that they automatically Photoshop them so you are whiter, your eyes are bigger and you look like you are wearing makeup. So in the pictures Tom looks very feminine and has scary eyes. He looks hilarious in them. The booths even give pose ideas. Lots of fun :P
After we played a few games. Including watching a very intense and strenuous game of Taiko drumming between Coral and Issie. It was fantastic to watch and I'm looking forward to seeing the videos. Tom tried and failed to get a Pokémon from a Grapple machine game. Several times. Eventually, after giving up we wandered off to get look in the shops but eventually I had to stop off and buy some socks because my heels had been rubbed raw by my new shoes. Very painful.
Eventually we ended up in an apartment store where none of us brought anything but there were lots of cute but very expensive clothes. Coral and Tom shivered feeling very out of place. Feet hurting and feeling very hot and bothered, Issie, Chantelle and I head back to the hostel. Grabbing some lunch from Eleven seven. Whilst Tom and Coral disappeared off to an Anime Centre. I would have gone but seriously my heels were very painful, plus I'm here for a year so I figure I'll have time to go again.
Hours later Tom and Coral reappeared with lots and lots of goodies. Coral was like a little kid at Christmas and even got herself a loyalty card. So yer, definitely going to have the chance to go again XD.
That night we were once again up until about 3 o'clock in the morning. Or at least I was, the others stayed up later again. We do try to go to sleep but it just doesn't work. Still once we are in our own rooms again, it should get easier. Hopefully.
I woke up about 1 pm. Sorta looked at my phone in disbelieve before checking a few other devices. Yep. 1 pm, it was either jet lag or I needed the sleep. I debated waking the others up, but everyone had been complaining the day before about aches and pains (Ella, you would be very disappointed) so I left them too it. Eventually I got bored of doing nothing and got dressed. Waking the others up accidently in the process. Leaving them to wake up, I got everyone breakfast and at about 4pm we finally left the hostel room lookng a little sheepish at being up so late.
With not really much time left in the day, we decided to go hunt down where we would be moving into the next day. Which involved a bit of research using the subway maps to work out how to get there. Geographically Bunkyo district is just west of Taito district but there was no straight line in order to get to there.
Either way, we tried a route and then realized another one in the process which we resolved to take back and see which was quicker. When we finally arrived in Sendagi, it was Coral and I's turn to test each other's orienteering skills again and this time we both failed epically. In our defense the map we had been given was not very good and neglected to inform us of which exit to use out of the subway station. This confusion left us wandering aimlessly about for about 20 minutes, several growls between Coral, Issie and I, before we finally recognized the I-house from the pictures we had been shown.
The I-house looks like any other apartment building, but we all groaned when we realized one slight drawback. It was up a hill. Gah! Getting seven bags up that hill was not going to be fun at all.
Returning home, we decided the second route was indeed quicker than the first. By quite a bit really. We relaxed for a bit, had some showers and cooled down before heading out for the evening. Karaoke time! As many of you know, I can't hold a note to save my life and to be honest, either can the others. But as bad singers we were, we made up for it in enthusiasm.
I am REALLLY not looking forward to seeing Coral's Vblog for this night. I suspect a lot of blushing will occur, as sober or not I got quite into it. But hey! Someone has to get the ball rolling :P
Key difference between China's KTV and Japan's Karaoke is drink. Yes, you can drink at Japan's Karaoke clubs, however the drinking age in 20. Which is fine for me and Chantelle but the others are too young and much like England, they do ask for ID. So this was the only time I have ever done Karaoke were sober. Good thing I like these guys so much or else I would have been hiding in a corner somewhere. But it was fun and we danced and sang for two hours before heading back to the hostel for the last night, before we moved into where we would be living for the next year.
So yer, lots of fun :P
