I got up at 7:30am today and got ready fast. I had to go buy my shot glass (a collection I was starting) and pick up my visa at the brasilian consulate. Unfortunetely, I had to leave pretty early so I did not have the chance to say goodbye to Sabine.
I got to downtown and went directly to get my visa. I found out that all of the effort to get my visa will be good for 5 years (so I can go back!). Afterwards, I went to a market to get my shot glass, and left right away. I knew that the bus was going to be 8 hours long and i still wasn't sure if the border was closed today.
Once I got to the terminal station, the thing I feared the most was a reality...the border was closed! I had to find a quick way to get to the airport since I knew that there were not many flights that were flying today. I took a taxi that used up the last of my chilean pesos that I had.
I was lucky that there was a promotion going on the day I left. Therefore, a plane ticket that would usually cost 200 USD, cost only 90 USD with taxes. I took the 3pm flight that lasted 1 hour to Mendoza. The Mendoza airport was really small (smaller than Winnipeg!) with only 3 gates.
I got to my hostel and decided to explore the city right away since I had only a day and a half in Mendoza. I visited the museo fundamental, which was free on Wednesdays! I also visited the different plazas in the city center. Mendoza has 5 plazas with the Plaza Indenpendencia as the main one.
I was getting pretty hungry, but I realized that argentineas eat really late, and most of their restaurants only open at 8 or 8:30pm. While I was looking at the different restaurants, I found a new word that I like best, better than "buffet". Is is called "tenedor libre" (which translates roughly to buffet). However, the argentinean version of a buffet is more food, and better food with an open grill and the best meat in the world! And all that for 6 USD!
Once I got back to the hostel, I was very satisfied gastronomically. I met these Irish guys and one girl from New Zealand. We all decided to go out that night to an Irish pub (I know...really original...). We had lots of fun describing our many travel experiences. Afterwards, they all decided to go to the casino of Mendoza. I, however, was ready for bed (especially after that rich meal!). Tomorrow, I was going to be drinking a lot more, tasting the best wines in the world!
