Just a quick update re Alyson - the doctors have done an excellent job of stitching her wound (and I watched the whole thing - which was fascinating)! She is fine (plenty of painkillers) and we are now sharing a bottle of Kenya's finest wine (!) prior to our celebration meal.

Today has been interesting to say the least. I started the ride today full of drugs after waking up feeling very poorly and for the first 20kms I could hardly turn the pedals - I was extremely slow, every metre felt like a mile and every pothole seemed to vibrate through my head. Fortunately after about an hour the drugs started to kick in and I started to feel better. At the first drinks stop I filled up on biscuits and energy snacks and things just got better...

I have woken up this morning with a puffy face, swollen eyelids and a bottom lip that looks like I have had some bad collagen implants. Add to that a raging headache, sore throat and a runny nose....... Things are not looking that good. I am off to see the doctor now, but if they even suggest I can't cycle today they may have a fight on their hands!!

Started out this morning at 7.30am - the majority of people suffering from aches and pains and tired legs. There is also a lot of people who are walking with a wide gait and finding sitting down a little uncomfortable and the amount of details some people are going into about their sore 'bits' is quite frankly too much information!! The first section was through the town and the traffic was stopped to allow us to get through without too much disruption although ...

The photo is of the door next to our hotel room, security is obviously not a priority for the Kenyans..... In fact this hotel deserves a special mention - dirty sheets, dirty curtains and a general air of grubbiness. Thank goodness for the last minute purchase of cotton sleeping bags so we didn't actually have to touch any of the hotel linen. Apparently this is a better hotel to the one that Group 1 had - I can only imagine what horrors they had to endure.
