Another 6am alarm call (it's worse than going to work!)....
Today is the toughest day of the challenge. The route is just over 90kms and its 'undulating'! The group seemed up for the challenge at the morning briefing and after a quick warm up we were ready to set off.
The mornings ride started with a 7km stretch to a water stop after which we had a set of 3 hills to contend with. Unfortunately Gemma had a gear failure quite early on and we had to wait for a mechanic to fix the bike. After deciding it was un fixable at the road side a quick tweak of something and suddenly it was declared fixed. We rode on and at the next hill My chain fell off. Whilst fixing that I glanced up and spotted Gemma off her bike again with exactly the same issue as before with her gears! A quick swap of bikes with the tour leader and we were off.
The rest of the morning passed by with numerous hills and the weather getting warmer and warmer, the Cuban ground staff today did a little dancing at one of the drinks stops which livened up the group!! After about 50km we regrouped at a restaurant for lunch.
The afternoon was a lot flatter and with the route broken only by a cheeky hill - short but steep on the way into Trinidad. The hill itself wasn't too bad, but the sun was beating down by this point directly on our backs, so we were all very relieved to get to the top and rest in the shade.
The final section today was mainly flat with a little downhill as we travelled from Trinidad to Ancoa resort where our hotel is.
Today may have been incredibly hot and hilly, but for me at least it has been the best day by far.
