Hi everyone, despite everyone advising us not to go to Canberra because its 'boring' we decided to go and decide for ourselves. Heres the verdict:
Day 1
Travelled from Sydney on bus for 4 hours - seemed a very long journey and the air conditioning on the bus did not seem to be working! Checked into our hostel then went to the supermarket to get the ingredients for a yummy tea of Spag bol. Sunday night so nothing much happening, went for a walk before getting an early night.
Day 2
Today we were geeks! Visited the new parliment building and even went on an organised tour of the place - it was actually quite intresting and the building was amazing (geeks - we know but it was free!!) but it had to be done. Next we visited the Australian museum which was very boring. Back in the city (which is really tiny) we got some free pancakes from a voucher we had picked up in our hostel - very tasty!Decided to go back to hostel and chill watching tv for the evening
Day 3
Today we rented bikes - big pink ones (Bish - you would have loved them). As Canberra has the biggest Australian Institute of Sport in Australia we decided to cycle their to check out what us British athletes are missing out on. Facilities here were amazing and gold Olympic medals and stories were on show for us to read and look out. Next we cycled along Lake Griffin Lake which is in the middle of Canberra centre - really pretty. Cycled to the war memorial which again was suprisingly quite intresting. Because Canberra isnt exactly party central we spent another night chilling.
Day 4
Bad start to the day as Nicky had had her wash bag stolen from the room during the night!! Went on free internet in the morning then walked to the botanical gardens. Had lunch here before hiking to the telstra tower at the top of a mountain! Views from up here were amazing however just as luck would have it - it started raining! aahh. Nothing much happened today except after our tea we picked up another voucher for free pancakes! yummy
Ok, so there you have it - Canberra isnt the most exciting place in the world and their is definatly no partying going on here.. but it was a nice litttle chill and alcohol detox for us. Glad to be leaving now - flying to Melbourne at 10.20 (13th Dec).
More updates soon. x
P.S Sorry about the spelling mistakes - Charlotte typing fast and no Nicky to do spell check for me
