So. That's it. Australia 2009/10 is over. I survived the deadly snakes, spiders, koalas, dragons, sharks, stingrays, ants with fangs… and what do I have to show for it? Thousands of memories! Horray. Three and a half months have just whizzed by.
Well, the final leg was spending ten days in the Melbourne sun watching tennis, saying G'day to Ramsay Street, and going along the Great Ocean Road! Ramsay Street was first. Managed to see the high school, hospital, outside the studios and meet Stuart Parker - who was in it back in the day! Very good trip, and finally got to see the street that I watched at 5.35 every day for most of my childhood! (Thanks mum).
The Great Ocean Road was next. Absolutely fantastic coastal road, one of the best in the world so they say! The tours were a tad pricey so I decided to rent a car for a couple of days and do it myself. And for a third of the price. Happy backpacker. I made it down to Port Campbell and stayed in a big hostel with lots of other backpackers and went out for fish and chips. Very impressive road indeed!
Finally I had a week of tennis action back in Melbourne. This was incredible! Still haven't made it to Wimbledon, alas, the first day reminded me of it somewhat. Torrential rain for the whole day. Managed to see a whole match (ended up lasting 6 hours including the rain breaks) and the start of the second. Still, the crowd were all in good spirits dancing with umbrellas and such like. And no, I didn't start the Singing in the Rain rendition. Apologies. How very un-British of me! Got to see Roddick, Gonzalez, Del Potro, Williams Sisters, Baltacha, Murray, and lots more exciting players.
On the Thursday I was watching the tennis with Amy (who I met up the coast) at Federation Square in Melbourne on the big screen... and guess who turned up? Only GMTV! Doing their 7am live feed from Melbourne. Old Prince Will was over to see Australia (for all of three days) so they were talking about him. Whilst Amy and I danced behind the cameras getting a peak on TV. Who knows if we got on, we had fun anyway. A couple of people came up and gave us their tickets to the tennis as well, so we were in the right place that day!
Scooted back up the Canberra on Saturday (having lost my Ozzie phone in the process) how unlike me losing phones. Anyway. Spent a final day with K consuming the usual prawn dish, yum yum yum, and then left to head to Sydney and onto New Zealand. Aparently NZ doesn't have any snakes. It's just the deadly sheep you have to look out for over here.
Oh well, I best start planning my next month. Final month. AHHH! Home soon. Looking forward to a proper cuppa and going to Tescos.
Hope life is well back home, and I look forward to seeing you all very soon!
