Hey people
I'm about to leave Singapore. Only had a couple of days here because it is so expensive!!! Just as expensive as England and when you've been travelling for in Asia a while, that seems like a fortune. Especially alcohol.
Had a night in Kuala Lumpur (Malaysian Capital) before coming here. Didn't do much except meet Srah for a drink that night and we hung out for a while on the roof of my hostel.
Anyway so I'm coming across the border, and my bus leaves me there, along with a Malaysian guy and 2 other English people. So I'm screwed, because as I usually stupidly do, I'm crossing the border with NO money. I had 10 ringgit (1.50 pounds) and no Singaporean dollars. So some guy agrees to take me on his bus for 10 ringgit after I beg a little.
Get in and walk to the cheapest dorm in Singapore. The dorm isn't really a room...its just a lot of beds on the roof of the building, so it was quite cool at night.
I've become a lazy traveller. When I was in places like Vietnam, I talked to people who called themselves 'lazy travellers'. These people often spend a lot of time around the hostel and sleeping because its hard for them to drag themselves out sightseeing. I've become like this.
Reason is because I'm all templed out, and after that theres not that much to see. Just different areas of town. So I spend the second half of my first day sleeping, because I'm going to be up all night.
I meet these 2 Irish people and this English lad and we go out (after playing the card game Hearts in McDonalds for an hour) to find somewhere to watch the game. We go to this bar strip I've heard of...
Problem is this bar strip is in China town and only has kareoke bars. So we are wandring the streets with 5 mins to the kickoff of the Euro 2008 final with NOWHERE to watch it. I ask these people we saw on the street, and they took us to some Indian bar which had it on. Sorted. Good game, and I was backing Spain so was happy when I bloody Germans lost. Everytime I saw this German guy from the hostel the next day I just kept shouting 'Vamos Espangia' (or however you spell it). Woke some Chinese girl up when I was drunk later and shouting it....Woops
Next day I force myself to go sightseeing. Not much to see in Singapore, so I went around Chinatown, and to Orchid Road (massive shopping area...would take a week to see it all). In the evening, I met 4 English lads and we went out.
Started at Raffles Place, most famous place in Singapore, and most expensive (3 quid for a coke, then I poured some Scotch in from my hip flask). Theres peanut shells on the floor because they have loads of free peanuts and its become something of a tradition to throw them on the floor.
Then went for some food, then to Clarke Quay, nightlife area. (Monday was quiet though). There was a Hooters (dead apart from 2 old men). We went to some bar and had a shot of Tequilla, then moved on to the biggest Ministry of Sound in the world...
...which was closed.
So we go to another club, quiet but stready, got a mini barrel of beer with a tap, chatted up some Singaporeans and Thai girls, may or may not have been prostitutes, and danced the night away.
Then went to some Asian club with live music and the most beautfiul lead singer ever!
Then crawled home, good night.
I've not put pictures up since Vietnam, but plan to put all of the pics from Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, Full Moon party, Malaysia, Singapore and the Phillipines up when I get back to Gunagzhou.
Hope its all good at home.
