Kirsty wanted to do something for her birthday so before you know it, we were booked into an italian retreat on the coast. Moneglia was the destination, Jack, Nik, Kirsty and her house mate Charlotte, flew Ryan air from Manchester into Bergamo just outside of Milan. Hired a car for a 3 hr drive just past Genova.
The last part of the drive was easily the best, a one way/one lane tunnel called 'Moneglia Tunnel'. Just straight through the mountains for 5km, it dates back to the early 1900s!
We arrived late on the friday night and found Rita our hostess who was waiting at the train station for 3hrs! Unlucky Rita. She was lovely though and we felt terrible. After dropping our bags off at our cliff top Apartment Taxi Rita dropped us back into town and picked us back up a few hours later.
The saturday was a beach day with the exception of a shop at a classic little italian store, where we stocked up on pasta, cheese, local beer and wine. Saturday night was spent overlooking the wonderful little town whilst enjoying a quiet drink. It was such a wonderful little town, had no commercialism what so ever just a 'live off the land' old country town with amazing views and beach life.
Sunday was great walking the streets after the hangovers left. We really loved our time there, pasta, pizza and gelato how could you not. 30 everyday also helped. Monday was an early morning back in the car at 4.30am heading back to the airport for our 10.30am flight back to England! Pilot: "We expect to land in Manchester at 12.10pm, where it is a lovely summers day of Rain and 11 degrees"
