Our very short trip to Cairo Egypt was a blur of craziness. Our hostel was on the 7 th floor and was actually part of a massive terrace, right in down town. The Egyptians are taking part in Ramadan, which means for 40 days they can not eat, drink or smoke between sunrise and sunset! With such a hot climate, we are still not sure how they survive a day with no water. The temperature during our stay would be mid thirties during the day and mid twenties at night. We spent our first day seeing the main sights like The Black, The Red and The Bent Pyramids. We got to go inside two of them and a temple! We saw Pyramids of Giza and The Sphinx by horseback. We then went on an overnight tour to see The Black Desert, Crustal Mountain and then The White Desert, where rocks have eroded over the years and are in the shapes of mushrooms and one even looks like a chicken! Our accommodation for night was rated 1,000,000 stars... We got to camp in the desert under the Milky Way and shooting stars. No tents! Just a mattress and a sleeping bag! We found that since the revolution, the locals have become quite desperate in picking up tourism again, which means most the time you feel all they want to do is make you buy something! Other sites and things we did in Cairo was the Egyptian Museum where there was a Tutankhamen section, lots of jewellery, mummies and massive statues made of solid stone, The Nile River, the Mohammed Ali Mosque, the Khan el-Khalili (market) and the beautifully green Al-Azhar Park. When it came to cuisine we fell in love with Koshary and French fry or chicken sandwiches. But didn't eat as much as we drank water!
After our 7 days in the crazy city with a population of 24 million, we are off the small island of Malta!
