Round the World in 155 Days!
We left Melbourne and headed to Adelaide on an 11 hour bus journey. Before we left we stopped off at the aussi open practice courts, its closed off to the public but youcan look over the fence, Andy rodd*** was on court playing american football, i had a brief encounter with the world number 2 tennis player as follows:
Nick: (Having climbed over a fence and escaped security guards) \"hello andy, good luck!\"
Andy Rodick: (Looking up to see someone holding on to a fence) \"get the s@#t outta here dude\"
Hence andy\'s reluctant photo manner in pictures. I think my days in the paparazzi are numbered.
We ended up in Alderliade very early mourning after an uncomfortable 11 hours, its also incredibly hot and its 7.30am. We wonder around witht the bergens and find a place where we are meant to picking upa camper, to cut a long story short 8 hours later, after much confusion we pick up a deluxe surfer camper thats anything but subtle. We get it fo a good price cause its got a dodgy fifth gear and we been waiting for 8 hours. The camper has air con whcih is a must, as well as power steering. We are recieving all sorts of looks and comments on our camper from all sorts of people we ve had to cover up the slogan on the back that says we take acid, its not a good look at family campsites, where 6 yr olds are calling us hippies, the anti mozi candles sent doesnt help deter this image. Set into campsite in Aldelaid and get nice grub off campstove, prepare for a very sticky nights sleep.
We head to Gleneig beach resort in Ald on a very hot day, then decide to explore the Barossa Valley north of the city. The BV is a wine making region (64 wineries) and we investigate jacobs creek and check into a campsite, theres a local pool and its a godsend, i also get top marks for the straightest plank like dive in the world. (See Pics). We head through a few wineries prentending to be of knowledge at the tasting sessions, we hit 3 wineries before lunch and Nickys is drunk. Bv is nice area with hills of vines. We move on to Cudlee Creek in the Aldelaide hills where Nicky has been on about going to hold a Koala. I go and investigate and tell her the place has burnt down and all the koalas were killed in the fire, before she starts to cry i inform her it was a joke. Anyway Koala \'molly\' 4 yrs old was alot friendlier than other molly named animals ive cme across, so much so nicky keeps looking at the pics over and over again. We stay in Hahndorf and watch the fed v marat game on our little black and white (luxury), oh and n cooks up a cracking pasta tuna combo. We head south and join the princess highway which runs along the south and east coast. We re intending to stay on the coast for the great ocean road and up to brisbane in 3 weeks. Stop in Robe and find bar where a guys singing some daivd gray which is great and kip in national park which is free although severly rubbish roads, i think the camper is out of its league as all we past is 4x4\'s and give us a caring wave as we bump along. We carry on along the coast into Victoria and stop in Portland and then move on to the start on the great ocean roads where we find ourselves now, we ve just been to this volcano and irish settlement. The land is very strange we ve been on a straight road where theres not alot, very baron and open and yellow and dusty, its not the kind of place you want to run out of gas, which we nearly have.
All is fine and dandy thankyou, we ve stocked up with noodles and weet-bix and ready for the great ocean road.
This is Nick Dill reporting from Victoria, Australia. Out.
