Round the World in 155 Days!
After staying at our hostel for a 2nd night I wake up to Nick banging around telling me we have to be out of the hostel in 10mins - Nightmare.
We head to Woolworths to get some breakfast and then sit in the park and eat croissants, all good. Nick then goes off to ring around to find some where to stay - I am left with 4 bags, about 100 seagulls some aussi builders and some floor cleaners. The builders keep throwing bread for the birds at my feet (thinking it is v funny) so I have a million birds at my feet and the road cleaners are trying to clean the floor with this spray thing but I cant move because I have 4 bags ( I cant even lift my own bag) and 10 bottles of water that Nick insists on buying - so the man sprays me!!! Nick comes back I am not happy but we have a room - result.
Head to Bondi Beach which is really nice and is full of perfect looking brown people - give me a couple more weeks and I'm sure I'll be the same colour. We go in the sea but we cant swim because of the current. After Nick drinks 4 more bottles of water and I finish Olivia Joules we have a look around and then head back to Kings cross. I cook our first meal in the hostel Nick tries to eat it out of politeness but it is really quite minging!
13th of January and Nick Dill is 23! I point out that in 2 more years he will be half of 50, he thinks about this and declares that he 'better start living' so watch this space. As he has never been to the beach for his birthday we head to Manley (where the England rugby team stayed during the world cup nick informs me) we have to catch a ferry by the opera house which is nice. Nick gets a 'birthday hat' (see photos) and we go to the beach. Nick spots some 10 year olds jumping off a pier and runs off to join them and comes back with a fan club! they drop something in the sea and beg him to swim and get it, he says its to far out and there may be sharks and interestingly they tell us more people die from coconut landing on your head!! He is still unprepared to take the risk.
We take walk around, chill out and then head to 'Ribs and Rump' a famous steak house - the food is amazing even if Nick spends half the time taking photos of rugby players comments!! Walk out really full but find room for a chocolate ice - cream and wonder and catch the night ferry back so we see Sydney lit up. Get back and get a few beers and then head to the internet so nick can pick up his birthday messages. Meet up with Nicks friends Rob and Louise for a few drinks and arrange to meet at the tennis.
