With three nights left in Colombia, and after two sweltering nights under canvas with very basic amenities, we decided to treat ourselves to some creature comforts to end our journey. We headed for the backpacker magnet that is Taganga, and a hostel with air conditioning and a pool.
I had reservations. Words associated with Taganga, aside from backpacker magnet, are party town and crime. I had a mini-Magaluf in my head. I could not have been more wrong.
Taganga is a small fishing village with a so so beach. It's picturesque in a run down kind of way, I think only about 10% of the roads are actually paved. But it's been "discovered" and so there are several hostels, some very decent restaurants and a variety of bars and cafes. We saw no sign of the negative things we'd read, maybe in high season it gets a bit more rowdy.
So we spent two very relaxing days by the pool doing absolutely nothing. A lovely end to the quick fire tour.
To sum up, we loved Colombia. The people were warm and friendly everywhere we went, and the countryside is stunning and varied. Can't recommend it highly enough.
