The BIG day...a big push is needed from both of us if we want to reach Everest Base Camp. A two hour trek to Gorak Shep then a 2.5 hour trek to EBC. We forgot the route, the terrain, the scenery etc as we were so focused on making it and WE MADE IT! We finally reached the foot of Sagarmatha, Chomolungma or Mount Everest as we know it. The day before the big push to Everest Base Camp.....we gained 500m and Helen walked at snail pace but you know what they say about the hare and the tortoise. It was freezing cold, and Nick didn't have a good day as he couldn't find his pace. Today was relatively easy compared to day 2 and 4 but I never want to see another stone again. We now have Nuptse on our doorstep and again, no sign of Everest who is hiding behind its neighbours.

Day 5 of our trek was spent trekking to Dingboche which was bitterly cold (just for the record). Dingboche lies at 4410m. The morning was fairly easy as it was fairly flat with some steps, we had lunch at Syomare and Ama Dablam was literally on our doorstep, believe me when I say it's a stunning mountain. After lunch we trekked for 1.5 hours and it was all uphill but thankfully gradual and we now had both Lhotse and Lhotse Shar on our doorstep. At this point Eve...

Hereon we headed off to Tengboche at 3860m. A lovely trek was had in the morning with its gradual inclines but mostly flat and downhill which suited us both. It was becoming harder to keep our breath due to the thin air. The afternoon, however was a different story - it killed us but nowhere near as bad as day 2. Right, Day two of our trek. We trekked from Phakding to Namche Bazar which is a traditional Sherpa village that lies at 3440m.
