We're in Luang Prabang! The crossing to Laos went smoothly, immigration took a long time but we got there in te end! We took a 7 hour boat journey to Pakbeng and stayed there overnigght. The boat was not comfortable at all! The benches weren't big enough for 2 people to sit on and they cram so many people on the boat that we couldn't stand up properly! Pakbeng was pretty much a non event! It was just a halfway spot! We caught a 9 hour boat journey the next day to Luang Prabang. The boat journey was much better the second day, we had a few beers with some of the people sat behind us and chatted to some Chileans in front of us who were lovely! The boat was much bigger the second day too so it was much easier to move around! The scenery on both days was pretty boring though! 16 hours along the Mekong river with just mountains and sand was a bit dull!!
Luang Prabang is lovely! A really pretty town with a lot of French influence. Lots of picture taking! Beth and I caught an hour tuktuk journey to a waterfall today which was beautiful! We did some rope swinging and swimming! Really lovely! We also got up really early this morning to see the monks do their daily walk through the street receiving gifts of food that people buy and offer to them. It was quite bizarre, we ended up giving them handfuls of rice in a pot!
We're off to Vang Vieng tomorrow, 5 hour bus drive and then tubing!!!! Yay!!
